The former president's effort to keep his MAGA base talking appears to be cratering.

Donald Trump's Truth Social app has plummeted in sign-ups and traffic since its technically challenged launch last month, The Wrap reported Tuesday.

The former president’s social media network for MAGA disciples has sunk to about 60,000 new users a week.

“This is down 93% from its launch week, when it saw 872,000 installs during the week of Feb. 21,” Stephanie Chan of the analytics site Sensor Tower told The Wrap. “We estimate that Truth Social has so far reached approximately 1.2 million installs since its launch.”

The point of Social Media like Twitter and Facebook is "engagement" bringing eyes to screens and having them engage with the messaging. Twitter works because it is diverse. You can follow your favorite celebrity, singer, sports team or athlete, politics, etc... Trump was the president, so his Tweets were official record. When he inevitably said something stupid or corrupt, the people who did not like him would respond and the MAGA idiots would defend Trump's idiocy...because they are all idiots.

Put idiots on another Twitter-like platform when it is ONLY them, and you have a boring echo chamber. Trump cannot entertain his idiot fans without engaging with the people who dislike him and there are only so many "the radical left is trying to silence me..." type posts that Trump can make, without any kind of actual engagement with people on "the left" before it gets stale.

Fox News is successful in its niche because it feeds right wing propaganda to a passive audience, from the top of the conservative power structure. Social media like Twitter, depend on COMPELLING figures to engage diverse audiences. This is something that Trump cannot do. No one really misses his stupid Tweets. The only Tweet, people on our side are waiting for is "Trump is convicted and is being taken to jail".

Like the others on this thread have said as well, Trump is lazy and stupid. He is not a good businessman. He is a decent con man. Anything that requires work is going to become boring to him quickly. He was not looking to supplant Twitter. He was looking to exploit a grievance for a quick buck.
