Pablo Picasso to a Nazi: an historical response apropos to today's situation with Russia

This is a reply to the question asked in Quora:
“What is the coolest line in history?”

It’s just a hair too long to fully quote here, so if you’re interested in the response, you’ll have to click the link…

After reading about the Russian protesters being arrested for holding up blank signs, signs with just asterisks, or in one instance, literally just saying “two words,” reading of this encounter from another, similar situation seemed fitting and worth sharing.

During the Nazi occupation of Paris, Pablo Picasso was taken to be "interrogated" by a special branch of Gestapo that had been set up to handle intellectuals and artists.

The officer who confronted Picasso, in spite of being a Gestapo thug, was almost polite, spoke a good French and seemed even educated. A rarity.
