AOC is predicting we're going to get badly beaten in November and in order to prevent it, she says we have to move further to the left. I agree that November can be a disaster for us. But I believe that moving further to the left will only be a gift to the Republican propaganda machine.
The Republicans understand human nature far better than do we Dems. They know that fear is a stronger motivator than reason, common sense, or even self-interest. And it works, as we've seen over many decades.
So, given that there are only about six months left until this year's elections, here's my prescription. Scare the shit out of American voters. I mean terrify them. How? Tell them we're on the brink of a fascist takeover that will turn America into a horrible dictatorship like Russia, or worse. Make that our single message and shout it out loud and clear. Tell them the Republicans are a threat to our freedoms and our very existence. Think that's going too far? Take a look at some of the certifiably insane people in today's Republican Party and then tell me what "too far" means.
And, yes, this is playing dirty. But when you're at war, you play dirty. There are no bombs or missiles falling on us, but the Republicans are trying to take away our country and our freedoms, as sure as Putin is trying to take away those of the Ukrainians. And make no mistake about it.The Republicans declared war on us a long time ago.
Agree with AOC? Think I'm way off base? Have a different solution? Okay, let's hear how we prevent the American fascist party from winning or stealing the congress next November.

(9,478 posts)No need to lean into the Republican's messaging. We need to attack, attack, attack. If AOC hopes to enact any of the policies she supports, we need to win first.

The clear choice is between fascism and democracy!

(19,060 posts)The choice is between democracy and authoritarianism, it could not be more clear that those are the stakes.
And Dems must combat the negative messaging of Republicans better. They've let the entire discussion of how the US is doing be dominated by one metric, inflation. They're wasting the greatest year for jobs growth in US history under their watch, the best year for economic growth in 40 years, and the largest wage growth in decades. They refuse to brag about them in every conversation about inflation.

a reliable Democratic, Anti-Fa voter. The two terms fit together very well.

(15,035 posts)that making a difference next November. Most people, including voters, don't pay attention to political "stuff." If indictments were brought today, any trial would be a few months away, and would no doubt be delayed by appeals. November will be here before any jury will even be seated. And by then, our country could well have been stolen from us.

Unfortunately there is nothing of true impact Biden can really do about Manchin's blocking of the so so vital voter bills.

(2,957 posts)This is because their ranks "fall in line" and vote for their party like lemmings running off a cliff no matter who runs under the "R" banner. They'll vote for moderates as well as Nazis if there's an "R" after their name on the ballot.
The left however actually THINKS about their candidates and votes in a more analytical fashion. They're much more discerning and won't vote for those on our side of the line who are more extreme. Lefties also tend to not vote at all if there is no candidate that suits them. This is a built-in flaw with the left that will make them losers in the upcoming election: we refuse to vote in one big block.
From moderates to Nazis, Republicans will reliably vote for any Republican on the ballot. Further, they get out and vote no matter what.
On our side of the spectrum, however, we bash AOC for being a too-liberal socialist who can't garner national appeal and we bash Tulsi Gabbard as a DINO for not toeing the line on every single little issue, even though she voted with Democrats 90-some percent of the time.
Both AOC and Gabbard have D's next to their names and their numbers in congress would keep us in control. But our vote gets fragmented and split with all of this liberal perfection we're demanding and Republicans come in and swoop up the win because of their psychotically consistent voting.

(53,776 posts)Ukraine against the monstrous Putin's invasion should have some effect but Manchin and Sinema's torpedoing of the BBB build was devastating.
Trying to break the bill into pieces and get those passed is our only chance.
AOC has to be more pragmatic and stop with the "moving left" is the answer talk. That cost us in 2020. You don't preach that as the answer. You win then install those measures.
