(14,627 posts)headquarters in Norfolk, overlooking Stockley Gardens. If the park at PETA is already under water, people living in Ghent need to be very cautious. Some of the streets in Ghent flood during every Nor'easter . . . I hope everyone is taking this seriously!

(19,841 posts)Yes--you are right, that whole Tidewater area is low. Maybe not as low as NOLA but it's a watery place.... I have many relatives there and other spots in Eastern VA. Very familiar. (Built on marshes y'know).
I fear poor Delmarva is gonna take the worst....

(79,302 posts)and they had water up to the neck last year. She sent pictures.
Ah, memories. I live in Atlanta now. No water, but I sure miss it.
And you're talking about the waterfront.
I lost my daughter this past summer and while I was home my younger sister took me to the waterfront one night.
It was beautiful.
I can't believe how much the place has changed.

(19,841 posts)Yeah I have a lot of good memories from there too. Have relatives on the Norfolk and Eastern Shore side. Have a sister who lives up the Newport News Peninsula too. Yes the waterfront is beautiful there--the wide river--and you can see over to Norfolk and when in Norfolk you can see the lights twinkling in Portsmouth. And all the harbor lights in between. And you know what I miss --being more inland now too--I miss those light sea breezes all the time. Even in the worst of summer there's always that light breeze to cool things a bit and make it more bearable. The air is always moving there. (Oh yeah and the seafood). Sorry to hear you lost your daughter this year. I lost my dad last year, who I was very close to and looked after. He was from the Delmarva and so I am thinking of him with this storm. It takes time.
