Wonder what my current congresswoman Michelle Lie-Cheat-n-Steel would have to say about this topic......never mind, I already know.

(82,849 posts)The media are drawn to certain stories over others, because of reasons. While they can go through four or five dubious connections to make Hunter Biden look corrupt, the straight line connection between Ivanka Trump and her corrupt ways will working in the White House is just toooo confusing! The media also like to say that a story has to be comprehensible and understandable, with simple visuals. It would be hard to top Rep. Porter in this clip. But it isn't going to be on the evening news or on a cable show anytime soon. Because reasons.

(54,770 posts)Insurance companies aren't going away unless people have a viable option. Nixon wanted single payer. Hillary Clinton had a plan that guaranteed coverage. Obama had to resort to ACA to get coverage to millions of uninsured, and provide a backup if one lost their job.
Counting those dollars is cute, but really doesn't do anything. Sorry. Until Congress does something, we are stuck with insurance companies.
BTW: California gave up on single payer because they didn't have the guts to tell people what it would cost to do it, even though many would come out better.

I had open heart surgery (aortic valve replacement) four years ago. Between my husband's work insurance and Medicare, it cost me...
Zero, zip, nada. Not one thin dime. I was and am astounded.
I don't really feel guilty about my good fortune. I just feel lousy that it can't be that way for everybody. It isn't right that I got such an amazing break while so many other people have to do without health care that they need as much or more than I needed that surgery. That's massively fucked up.

.same cost as you, no money out of my pocket.
My doctor said that this would be almost same type of coverage if Medicare would be opened for all.

(42,651 posts)Insurers get paid for risk management. Like any business if you could avoid the profit and the paperwork a lot more money would go into the product. Capital, business, and Wall Street does not want to hear this.

(2,173 posts)The last set of questions (especially the stock buy backs and executive pay) and then what we could do with that extra 16 dollars per hundred should be an ad in every state during midterms.
I want Medicare for all but would take incremental steps.
Lower age to 60 and add vison, dental, and mental health. Expand Medicaid at the national level instead of it being up to the states.
Once people see how good that is, then we can expand it again. That is why Rethugs fight so hard (besides the dark money) -- it is so much harder to take away something people have then to keep them away from it in the first place.

I can imagine a scenario where some dipshit republican male trying to mansplain to Katie about some issue he thinks he knows all about. And then she gets in his face and Katiesplains to him what a colossal turd-brain he just proved himself to be. She's that awesome.

17% of every healthcare dollar is WASTED! Yet we are unable to get our government to fix it.
