A new statement from The Academy says they have initiated disciplinary proceedings...

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Will Smith broke film academy's code of conduct, was asked but refused to leave Academy Awards, Oscars organization says.


A new statement from The Academy says they have initiated disciplinary proceedings against Will Smith for violating their standards of conduct and he faces "suspension, expulsion, or other sanctions permitted.”

I will be surprised if they come down hard on someone of his stature in the industry. If it had been someone less prominent, the penalty might be severe.

He needed to be escorted out of the building at a minimum...timely like 8mnrdistely after the assault and knowledge that this was not a " staged" event ...but an actual assault .

That would be the only "disciplinary action" he might care about.

His behavior took place before the award was handed out, so the Academy can say he rendered himself ineligible to receive it.

and it didn't stop them from winning.

And Sean Penn was charged with assault after winning two Oscars and no one took them away.

He should be suspended from the Academy for at least two years.
