Severe weather on Wednesday has prompted tornado watches for parts of eight states, including some areas still cleaning up damage from a swarm of twisters that hit last week.
Portions of Arkansas, northern Louisiana, east Texas and southeast Oklahoma have been under a tornado watch issued by the National Weather Service since early Wednesday morning. On Wednesday afternoon, the NWS issued additional tornado watches for Missouri, Kentucky, Illinois and Indiana.
The tornado watches are expected to stay in effect through Wednesday night.
The weather service has also reported winds of up to 75 mph across some parts of the tornado-watch zone stretching from New Orleans to Evansville, Indiana, and inch-size hail in Oklahoma.

(90,758 posts)The sirens went off and then came the brief announcement for people to take cover immediately. You could hear the message being repeated a few miles down the road, coming from the speaker located there. You could actually hear several of the speakers going at the same time, though miles away from myself and each other. Made it all the scarier.
Small town warning system.
Got my animals all secured - we had been under a severe wind advisory warning since early morning, but the storm was quick to form and even quicker to turn bad. Mere minutes from watch to warning.
I took a quick peek out and the rain was horizontal, the treetops looked like poms-poms shaking furiously, and debris was flying about.
I joined my animals and waited for what was to come next.
The tornado touched down about 5 miles away from me.
Minor damage. No injuries.
