of Americans to look for a better job. Thank both Obama and Biden. People don't have to fear losing healthcare, or getting caught up in that awful "pre-existing condition" bs.

(19,011 posts)Republicans will fight it tooth and nail though, they cannot allow people to have the freedom that Medicare for all would allow them. Earlier retirements, switching jobs more often, higher wages, no more working for health care. This goes against the very soul of the Republican Party which is cheap forced labor where workers have no choices but to take what they can get.
Here's what's going on right now, we have a worker scarcity, and workers are seeing real gains in wages and benefits for the first time in a generation. Wages are rising at the fastest rates in decades overall, but those gains are even more pronounced at the bottom right now. The $10 an hour job cannot get staffed, $16+ is becoming the new floor a lot of places. The lowest income brackets saw over an 8% raise in 2021, which easily out paced the year's inflation of 6.8%, but you won't hear this anywhere. "Real Inflation" for the poorest workers has gone down over the last year. And even the rest of the workers saw inflation mitigated by 5-6% wage growth.
Medicare for all would increase upwards pressure on wages, it would mean less expenses for corporations who will want to hire more people, it will mean earlier retirements for millions of people in their 60s who are just working for health care. Even lowering the age for Medicare to 60 would help workers at every level, those most experienced workers could retire earlier.

(6,853 posts)Not to mention the ability to work part time. Our office has a majority of part time workers now. There are millions of people wanting to work 20 to 30 hours per week, just not full time. With Obamacare, they can do that. We found these part timers because of the tight labor market.

(19,011 posts)It has helped in ways people don't even think about. Just this year, we helped a good friend leave her husband who was mentally abusive, she has health care needs, well she cannot go without insurance for the meds she needs, Obamacare literally was the thing that allowed her to leave a bad situation. They worked with her and she got a fully paid for plan because of her situation, she would have gone without health care if not for Obamacare, she was previously on her husband's insurance.
Health Care being part of employment has a large part in the decline of the American Middle class, it absolutely keeps people stuck in their work situations and makes them stay in other situations too. It's been used for years to keep workers in place, with 90 day waiting periods for it to kick in at new jobs too often, it's meant that families who can't go 90 days with out coverage have absolutely no choice but to remain at their current jobs.
