FiveThirtyEight FiveThirtyEight: “No matter which way you slice it, Democrats have gained blue seats from the mapmaking process, making the House playing field between the two parties more balanced than it has been in decades.”

“As the maps stand on March 30 at 5 p.m. Eastern, 175 congressional districts have a FiveThirtyEight partisan lean of D+5 or bluer, 181 have a partisan lean of R+5 or redder and 33 are in the ‘highly competitive’ category between D+5 and R+5.”

“That’s a net increase of 11 Democratic-leaning seats from the old maps. Meanwhile, the number of Republican-leaning seats has decreased by six, as has th

these "competitive" Democrats sworn in I'm going to refrain from any celebration.

That's just me. I never used to be this jaded and cynical, but......you know........republicans.

I really need something to feel better about. This is helpful. I like to think that we got them by making unfair maps into fair ones but know that we sometimes go for the wind just like they do.

I'll back off from that if we ever get something resembling a majority rule in this country.

The maps won't win us new seats in Congress. Working hard to convince people to vote for Dem candidates - that's what we need to do. This year and in 2024. Everything is riding on these 2 elections.

The GA and NC Dems plus the national Dems have my email. I know I'm going to get invitations to make calls. The fun will be deciding which candidates I want to make calls for.

It was really great making calls against the CA recall. Many people thanked me for doing that. Imagine thanking someone for making a junk call to your phone.

It's necessary to save our Democracy. This ensures that Dems have chances every 2 years to hold the House, the fear was that those chances would be gone, but they got better starting in 2022. It's still tilted towards Republicans, but not so bad anymore.

I hope Dems are not afraid to run against the rampant ignorance and fascism being exhibited by the GOP and Trump's "followers". To me, it's an extra reason TO run.

I'm a little curious why so many House Dems have opted to not run for reelection this Nov. It would seem to be a great time to push Progressive Dem goals.

in that assessment of Dem gains.

NY Republicans challenged the redistricting map in court and won. The court decided that the map blatantly favors Democrats and ordered the redistricting committee to redo it with a better balance.
