John Fetterman is leading Pennsylvanias Senate primary by double digits, according to a new poll released Thursday, a sign that the self-identified populist is sustaining the momentum hes enjoyed for much of the race.
Fetterman earned 33.4 percent of support from Democratic primary voters in a new poll from The Hill and Emerson College.
His closest competitors, Rep. Conor Lamb (D) and state Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta (D), each earned 10 percent and 7.6 percent support respectively.

With less than two months before the May 17 primary, however, theres still time for voters to pick a candidate to back. Notably, more than one third of respondents 37 percent are currently undecided about whom to support against a not-yet-determined Republican nominee, according to the survey.

(42,666 posts)He has no chance at winning the Dem POTUS primary. He is only polling at 10% in the 2022 PA Senate primary in this newest poll, his lowest poll numbers to date, and he never polled more than 16% from August 2021 onward in any poll that I have seen.
The proposed 'Tax Reform 2.0' would overwhelmingly benefit wealthy individuals and add trillions to the national debt.
https://www.pghcitypaper.com/pittsburgh/us-reps-conor-lamb-and-keith-rothfus-vote-to-extend-gop-tax-cuts-for-individuals/Content?oid=11083357
When Republicans in Congress passed a massive tax-cut bill in 2017, it drew widespread criticism, particularly the fact that the tax cuts were permanent for corporations, but temporary for individuals.
Now with the passage of H.R. 6760, aka "Tax Reform 2.0," those temporary cuts for individuals are one step closer to becoming permanent. In addition to extending the reduced individual tax rates past 2025, the proposal would also double the Child Tax Credit and restore cuts to estate-tax filings of about 5,000 of the richest American families.
And two local representatives, U.S. Rep. Conor Lamb (D-Mount Lebanon) and Keith Rothfus (R-Sewickley), backed the bill. It passed 220-191. Lamb was one of only three Democrats to back the bill.

My main worry with Lamb is he could become another Manchin/Sinema style unreliable vote, something that would not occur with Fetterman or Malcolm Kenyatta.
Obviously, if Lamb wins the primary, he is a billion times better than any of the scum Rethugs in the race, and he has my full support.
I truly hope that if he does win the primary and the general, that he doesn't go all contrarian maverick and/or grandstander.

(15,246 posts)I am in both his old and new district. The new district lost its portion of of heavily R Butler county and gained basically the northern half of Allegheny county. I think the district actually got more D, but it will probably still be competitive. I will be voting for Sean Meloy in the primary.
I figured the Rs would redistrict Lamb away, but thanks to their refusal to work with Gov Wolf causing a stalemate, the Supreme Court selected a map drawn by a voter associated with Marc Elias' group. The map reflects the pretty even partisan split of the state.

Demsrule86
(68,352 posts)Let me say this...Tim has a shot...I think a pretty good one. He is the only Democrat who could win the Senate right now in Ohio which does not mean he will win. I think it will be close and hope the GOP candidates are really awful...the debates were pretty terrible for the GOP. Ryan has the working man support and is tight with the UAW...he used to visit Lordstown GM often...and helped Delphi workers who were screwed too.
Demsrule86
(68,352 posts)lower the GOP votes in red districts...sort of how Biden won Georgia. We need to campaign even in red districts. There are Democrats in those areas and getting them out will help Ryan win statewide. I also think Ryan has a crossover vote the same as Fetterman. He got GOP voters in his district and independents too as well as Democrats. Even when Trumbull and Mahoning Counties went for Trump, Ryan won easily.

(13,225 posts)Democratic primary candidates, Joe Sestak and Katie McGinty. I thought his performance was the best of the three and FAR better than that of Katie McGinty who ended up winning the primary and then losing the general election to Pat Toomey.
Right now, it looks as though the party machine is supporting Conor Lamb and that leaves a bad taste in the mouths of many Pennsylvanians because of how the DSCC poured a lot of money into the 2016 primary in support of McGinty.
The DSCC also reserved $1.1 million in ad time to support McGinty in the last two weeks before the primary.[29]

(7,707 posts)and he's got blue collar cred which is critical here in PA. He, along with AG Josh Shapiro stood up to the insurrectionist Republicans who tried to steal PA for crooked Donnie. Shapiro knows how to run a winning campaign and frame issues, Fetterman isn't far behind. He's light years better as a candidate than he was when he ran for the senate in 2016.

(32,356 posts)I can share with you that John Fetterman is the real deal. He's a liberal-progressive Democrat and he would make a fine - even awesome - U.S. Senator. Here's the problem, so would Conor Lamb also make a fine U.S. Senator.
It breaks my heart that I have to choose one of them in the primary. Whichever candidate wins in May I'll be proud to support in the general election. I believe either one can and will win in November.
Of the two candidates, John Fetterman has more executive experience and he's more progressive politically. Lamb is several years younger and has more legislative experience, and politically he's more moderate of the two. They are both GREAT candidates. Why can't we have both?

(16,888 posts)was bothered when he would not support Speaker Pelosi for her Speaker position. I would have preferred he run to keep his House seat - it is a red district that he won and I'm afraid it will swing back without him staying there.
All of that said, I am a VERY strong supporter of Fetterman - he'll be a GREAT Senator.

He only said that he "wasn't sure" about Pelosi while he was running in a very red district.
Friday April 1 edit: I gave wrong info on this post earlier. Indeed Conor Lamb voted for Joe Kennedy as Speaker, not Pelosi. My apologies for getting it wrong, and thanks to those who pointed out my error.
After Lamb got elected the first time, he voted with the Party on almost everything. He's slightly more pro-gun that most other Dems, however he fits in with his constituency as far as gun laws go. The PA district map was redrawn before the 2018 election, and Lamb had to beat incumbent Keith Rothfus (R) for his newly redrawn district. He did that handily.
It will hurt us that he is giving up his house seat to run for Senator. However if he doesn't win the primary for the Senate seat, I think he can still came back to run for his house seat again. Friday April 1 edit: He cannot run for the House in the next term because he has already missed the deadline for filing.
My thanks to DUers who are smarter than I am! I still have a high opinion of Lamb, but I'm leaning more towards Fetterman now.

(32,356 posts)You are right and I am wrong.
I went on Reddit this morning as I occasionally do, and several posters say they are going to vote for Fetterman because they think Conor Lamb is "Manchin-Lite." I'm not sure how true that is, but Lamb has shown a lot of independence in the last couple of years.
I have no doubt that he's a good Democrat, but Fetterman is the rip-roaring progressive of the two.
