Florida GOP lawmakers are seeking to punish Disney by revoking the self-governing charter they’ve had since 1967. Disney has it’s own police, fire, and building codes.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – The Reedy Creek Improvement District—created by state lawmakers in 1967—acts as Walt Disney World’s own government with two cities and land in Orange and Osceola counties.

“In effect, they’re their own city out there. They can zone the way they want. They can do things the way they want. They can even build a nuclear power plant if they want,” News 6 political analyst Jim Clark said.

Those rights are now being discussed among some Florida lawmakers who are thinking about repealing the Reedy Creek Improvement Act of 1967.

“I think that this is a feud that is escalating into a war between Florida Republicans and the Disney corporation which is the largest single-site employer in Florida,” Clark said.

don't say Gay. It cost Disney big buck to keep an emergency staff on hand at various locations. The Sheriffs provide staff which are fund by Disney.. Disney properties are extensive.

Why not just run Disney out of the state altogether so no one has any reason to visit your shithole state?

Just sayin’.

They disagreed with him so he will used his power to punish them. It is penis wagging writ large. If Disney was smart, they would help elect Democrats, all over the state, and continue to bring 20 million dollars a day into the state. Or perhaps some other State, with higher ground and less Fascist politicians, would like some Disney magic. I guess the next thing that DeSantis will do is piss of Publix.

Don't get me wrong here, I'm on Disney's side here, and DeSantis and his crew are about to start a war they won't win lol, but if Disney can do this, so can Suckerberg, and that feels like it would be a terrible fucking idea.

It's not like they are making their own laws and arresting people for violating them. It just sounds like they have privatized their city services, something I thought Republicans would like.

They are pissed because of Disney pausing their political donations, which kind of makes this seem like extortion.

That being said, I'm not sure about repealing it for the wrong reasons.

I'm a Floridian and I'm not a fan of Disney.

But it has nothing to do with DSG.

Isn't tourism one of FL's biggest industries (if not the biggest)?
