Russians are not very smart.

In addition to totally underestimating the Ukrainian military response we have this:

Russia is reportedly evacuating its soldiers to a special medical facility in Belarus after they dug trenches in radioactive soil in a forest near the Chernobyl nuclear site.

Citing a report from Belarus’ open-source intelligence analysts, Militarnyi reported that Russian soldiers leaving the Chernobyl nuclear site have acute radiation sickness.

Dozens of Russian soldiers have reportedly been bussed out from the Chernobyl nuclear site to a special radiation medical center in Gomel, Belarus to help treat their radioactive poisoning.

According to a report, Russian soldiers suffer “acute radiation sickness” from contaminated soil.

I've heard of it, but I'm old. I remember when it happened.

I came across this recently, it is Anthony Bourdain - No Reservations - about going to Ukraine, and they actually go inside Chernobyl and there is a lot of info about the radiation, and what one can and shouldn't do when in the area. I found it fascinating.

RIP Anthony Bourdain!

...right there, to make decisions that made sense according to on-the-ground conditions, they were just taking orders from a colonel or general miles away, who didn't know or care about their situation.

6. Chernobyl is not taught in Russian schools

Other accounts say the soldiers had no idea what Chernobyl was, why they shouldn't disturb the dust in the Red Forest. They report "ghost buses" transporting the dead soldiers back to Belarus. Some are still alive and need treatment.

This is what happens when you pick and choose what you teach. Chernobyl may have led to the downfall of the USSR. It makes the old soviets like Pooty uncomfortable, so it's not taught.

The Red Forest is the most radioactive deadly place on earth. The trees turned red as they died after the explosion due to the high radiation.
