Years before she became one of then-President Donald Trumps most prominent coup supporters, Ginni Thomas was already notorious in his West Wing for, among other things, ruining staffers afternoons by working Trump into fits of vengeful rage.
We all knew that within minutes after Ginni left her meeting with the president, he would start yelling about firing people for being disloyal, said a former senior Trump administration official. When Ginni Thomas showed up, you knew your day was wrecked.
Ever since she became a welcome guest at Trumps residences, Thomasan influential and longtime conservative activist, and wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomashad perfected a proven formula of enthralling and manipulating the presidents emotions and mood. On multiple occasions throughout the Trump era, Thomas would show up in the White House, sometimes for a private meeting or a luncheon with the president. She often came armed with written memos of who she and her allies believed Trump should hire for plum jobsand who she thought Trump should promptly purgethat she distributed to Trump and other high-ranking government officials.

(3,496 posts)It would be just as effective to give anyone TFG terminated based on Ginni's actions a copy of the memo. They can then take action if there was a wrongful firing if they want. If no laws were broken, anyone could still take the memo and push out an interview or article exposing what a twit this person is. Death by a thousand cuts plus guilt by association.
Unfortunately, the tax payers will probably be on the hook for Ginni's actions (as usual).

(2,520 posts)If someone is given a job 'at will' from the President, there need not be any cause for firing.
I believe that only those who are civil service are legally protected.

(19,376 posts)As has been stated elsewhere, nothing shes done (that we know about) is illegal, but its exactly why the statute exists regarding Justices recusal. Unfortunately that presumed that the Justice in question would be honest and ethical.

(19,376 posts)Ive known, worked with, and been related to many Republicans over the years. Rarely agreed with their policies whether it regarded social or fiscal issues, but I generally found them to be principled and integrous. I think the fall happened when Newt Gingrich hit the scene. He brought out the worst in the Party and they been in free fall ever since.

(47,520 posts)Though I disagreed with almost everything they believed, I found them to be reasonable and informed for the most part. I also agree that Newt Gingrich brought out the worst in republicans in DC, though their desire to win at any cost probably preceded him (i.e. Nixon shamelessly catering to the religious right). He solved their political problems and created integrity problems in the process. I've long believe Gingrich was the major turning point in the downfall of the party.

(11,564 posts)I read a pithy description of their messaging, and I think it has a lot to do with their messaging success.
Never have a talking point that can't be put on a bumper sticker.
