General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI haven't seen anyone really comment on President Biden's
almost daily talks to the public. He is making himself more available and more often than any President I can remember.
I was just upstairs, for example, and there he was, talking about jobs and other topics.
President Biden Is Present! He's talking to us regularly. That's very refreshing.

(19,081 posts)He is taking questions daily, he is speaking directly to the American people daily.
Remember when they were trying to make a deal out of him not having an official press conference for a few months although he was still answering questions daily?

(146,319 posts)We're all glued to Twitter or something else online. Biden's on TV frequently. You do have to be tuned in to hear his remarks live, but the news media runs snippets of them frequently.
We don't have just three TV networks any more. There's nothing that we all do at the same time. It's more complicated than for FDR, who could make a radio address and have everyone listening to it. There's no media that is that universal any more.

(11,873 posts)The Presidency is not just a gold plated press avail. It's an actual job... with responsibilities and stuff.
I have always wondered who was doing the ACTUAL job while Rump was off playing golf or fucking off, or raging around the West Wing.
That has always been the scariest thought, for me anyway.

(11,873 posts)Unbelievable.
For example, the right is in a meltdown over Hunter Biden's bank account. Jared and Vonkers made $640million dollars while Daddy was *resident. I mean... WOW!

(146,319 posts)Biden is telling us what he's doing, and how it's working out. Unemployment is under 4%. Shockingly good.
Gas prices too high? Biden is releasing oil from the strategic reserve to help fill the supply gap. He is just doing it. And, he's letting us know that he's doing it. That can't be a bad thing.

(43,218 posts)Pres Biden and Press Secretary Jen Psaki spent a lot of time discussing responses to issues because Joe's verbage and banter sound a lot like her press conferences. The magic came from somewhere, or was learned, and it'll probably be years before the full tale is revealed.

I read that Michelle Obama told Barack that he needed to speak directly to the people more often in order to counteract negative messaging and disinformation from the right.
So maybe Biden learned from that experience.

(22 posts)And with our support, this very year, will exceed what he and his administration have done, and will do significant good for the country and world. His communication style is the refreshing opposite to the world of clickbait and "louder makes righter" world of an internet that was directed down the wrong path by sociopaths. In short, quality matters. Experience matters, and so does having a set of values and acting in accord with them rather than using them as cover for graft and abuse of constituents.

(81,350 posts)LOVE your screen name!
Quality matters, absolutely. But so does aggressive P.R. For far too many in this country, nothing exists unless you promote it. And PROMOTE THE HELL OUT OF IT!!!!
And do it NONSTOP.
There was a character in one of the Cheech & Chong movies that every so often would say "it doesn't mean dick unless you promote it."
And as my dad used to say, in what he called the "Formula for Success":
"Late to bed,
Early to rise,
Work like hell,
And ADVERTISE!"
He had that little rhyme plaqued and hung it on the wall in his office.

(22 posts)It's up to DNC and WH to follow through!
Naturally, things change. I did so before the latest Russian atrocity.
And things (namely the Republican "party" (how appropriate a word) are devolving rapidly.
What Joe told the DNC get-together for a "message" was basically that "we're working to make things better", i.e. creating jobs, and jobs count, which reflects his accomplishments to date. I hope that the message adapts, grows, and capitalizes best on the developing (ahem) Republican situation:
That said, I wanted to post some fun articles in the style a l'Oignon. (Onion style for any Francophobes out there)

(4,298 posts)Blames hm for inflation and not holding Putin in check. She hates Trump but at least he was a strong leader even if he lied so much.
I just completely lost it. This was a person I thought to be highly intelligent and sober minded. I asked where did she get those notions from. "Well, just look at what is going on and how he can't control his own Senators like Manchin and that woman from AZ."
I can't even begin to print here what I said to her but suffice it to say, I believe our 30-year friendship is shaky, if not over.
I simply have no explanation for her opinions. She is by no means poor. In fact, she is somewhat of a spinster. No children made a six figure income while working. No children so none of the expenses associated with raising a family and sending kids to school. Probably has well over one million stashed in the bank. Home paid for three years ago. But here is the kicker: She is ultra religious. Jehovah Witness but never has discussed religion with me. But a lot of what she is saying about the end-times and false prophets sounds like something being taught recently.
Sigh... A lot of people confuse kindness and sincerity for weakness. But that conversation really took its toll on me. I can usually just be quiet in the face of absolute craziness...but not this time. At first I felt ashamed of myself for what I said...but soon got over that. Just now in anger thought of a few other things I should have said.
