Russia, under this government, cannot be allowed to resume normal relations with the civilized world

Sanctions need to be expanded and made permanent.
They need to be suspended from trade groups.

There should be more serious actions than are now applied to N Korea, Cuba, Venezuela or Iran.

But there needs to be some carrot for Putin withdrawing from Ukraine.

I strongly agree with you in principle.

Do you realize how silly this sounds?

We can't directly go after Russia invading another foreign country, what makes anyone think we will have the political capital to break them up or overthrow the ruling powers after they finally agree to cease hostilities?

We would all love to snap our fingers and dispose Putin and permanently neutralize Russia, but the reality of Nuclear weapons and mutual assured destruction makes that an impossibility.
