(19,204 posts)That's probably the biggest reason, and Manafort's "skills" as a dirty - win at all costs - political tactician would be very marketable.

(19,204 posts)Instead of spending the money in infrastructure for the people, they'd rather tempt the world's rich and powerful with race tracks, golf courses, and I believe the next World Cup Soccer tournament is going to be there.
It's a wealthy person's paradise, but no one wants to live there. It's total insanity! 🤯

RKP5637
(67,112 posts)told to fuck off, call his bluff, and send in the jets and big anti-missile systems and cruise missiles. Whatever is done, this is not going to end well, I think we are beyond a diplomatic settlement ... and if there is a diplomatic settlement ... he might likely use it as time to rebuild for his next assault, perhaps. I'm all for bringing in the heavy stuff now. We've been dicking around now too long and it's clear, at least to me, he's in to genocide.

(4,044 posts)and he uses their deaths as propaganda implying that the Ukrainians are the aggressors.
Russia is a big place, and it is likely that only a small part of it would get irradiated by using tactical nukes in Ukraine.
And speaking of nukes, Putin sent people into Chernobyl and they dug up the soil.

(67,112 posts)become a madman. If he gains Ukraine, he will be relentless, and the Baltics will be next. And he's propagandized the Russian populace to be with him. To me, Ukraine should be provided the fighter jets they want for their own pilots. Ukraine could establish the no fly-over zone. At this stage I would not be too surprised to hear he has used chemical weapons and/or some type of a strategic nuke strike.

(13,583 posts)From here on, russia will go its own way, without worrying about the fate of the West, relying on another part of its legacy: leadership in the global process of decolonization.
As part of this process, russia has high potential for partnership and alliance relations with countries that the West has oppressed for centuries and are not about to put on its yoke again.

(37,163 posts)They were extreme-right white supremacists (if they weren't neo-Nazis, they were still in that political neighborhood) who formed a group of armed volunteers in 2014 to fight Russian-backed separatists in Donetsk and Luhansk. They were effective enough that the Ukrainian government played nice with them and eventually even made them part of the regular army (although after they did that, it really toned down the rhetoric of its founders).
However, it's one-point-something percent of the Ukraine military, its backers who tried to go into politics lost pretty badly, and doesn't really have any influence beyond being "the guys who helped plug a hole when we really needed it."
But all it takes for shameless propagandists is some grain of truth to disguise a mountain of bullshit. Witness our own Bullshit Mountain, FOX News.

(6,254 posts)are willing to fight Russian forces so better take care of them now rather than later. According to Clarke. Putin wont stop at Ukraine so we are going to need to confront him at some point so better to do it now than later when American lives maybe in jeopardy. That oped is terrifying. It lays the foundation for the justification for complete genocide of the Ukrainian people under the banner of denazification. Russians arent trying to hide their intention to eliminate the country of Ukraine. The op says a separate Ukrainian country is not sustainable. This is pure psycho babble. Putin has lost his mind.
