But Mitt Romney voting for Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is laudable and worthy of admiration.

Sometimes it works in our favor, but we can't really count on it.

(24,340 posts)She has built up a constituency in Alaska among the Democratic voting Indigenous people in the state
She is viewed by most as a supporter of Indigenous rights, and they're a big reason why she won as a write-in candidate, and why she will likely get re-elected to the senate again
hlthe2b
(102,405 posts)Given write-ins have to have exact name spelling I'd imagine she had to overcome having quite a few votes thrown out.
If AK is going to have an R as Senator, I'd certainly vote that it be her.

(641 posts)He is one of the I-can-count-them-on-less-than-4-finger puke who has a shred of integrity. He's clueless as to how most Americans live. And his cutting SS for the future generations ain't gonna fly. Won't take much to twist it into he's going to cut the SS *I* am receiving today.
I might add that he'll be against Biden's tax on 100M in assets. Just remember to ask any puke why it is okay that non-spouse beneficiaries of an IRA/401k have to take distributions in 10 years or less in order for taxes to be paid BUT assets passed over generations don't get the same treatment?

(925 posts)Republicans in the distant past have proven that they do care about this country and fellow citizens. But from Reagan on there has been very few.
Although I did get ripped for suggesting TFG did the right thing for by leaving negotiations for the Trans Pacific Partnership in the beginning of his administration. Only thing I agreed with.

(61,712 posts)Judge Jackson is eminently qualified to be on the Court, and the Republicans failed to find a single scandal, a single "issue" of any kind. During the Senate hearings she was unfailingly polite, gracious, calm, patient - in the face of extreme provocation.
The only reasonable vote is one in her favor. I'm glad Romney, Murkowski, and Collins made the correct choice. Is the bar so low now for Republicans that a reasonable decision is laudable and worthy of admiration?

However in this decision, Senator Romney is on the right side of history. That's no small thing in the times we're a-living. So, kudos to the man.

(11,773 posts)Judge to Ever be nominated. Romney doing the right thing is, just the right thing to do. He's no hero. Our bar for Republicans is so low these days, we're even willing to make heroes of Cheney and Kizinger. They're not even close! They're still voting against President Biden, Democrat and regular Americans every chance they get!

Let's not start expressing "admiration" for people doing their job as they have vowed to do under threat of penalty.
