Remember Scott Ritter?

Big hero here on DU during the Iraq War days. Then arrested and convicted of pedophilia.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised at this. If you value your sanity and blood pressure, don't read the comments.

As things stand in Ukraine, I believe there is a far greater likelihood that Zelensky will be arrested and charged as a war criminal than Putin. The direct evidence of Ukrainian war crimes, complete with proof of intent, is overwhelming. And yet the western media ignores it.

After Scott Ritter fell, Pitt volunteered he never met Ritter, and it turns out the entire creative writing exercise was based on a telephone interview.

Hmmm. A telephone interview, to drunk to write any on his own and the book says/shows he is a coauthor.

He is a fraud.

He called Obama a POSUCS when he screwed up his wife's healthcare. He was a gonner when he stated he would not vote for Hillary. I was on that thread when he said it.

that he identified as a republican, and said he voted for Geroge W. Bush in 2000.

"Ritter was the subject in two law enforcement sting operations in 2001.[59] He was charged in June 2001 with trying to set up a meeting with an undercover police officer posing as a 16-year-old girl.[60][61] He was charged with a misdemeanor crime of "attempted endangerment of the welfare of a child". The charge was dismissed and the record was sealed after he completed six months of probation.[61][62] After this information was made public in early 2003, Ritter said that the timing of the leak was politically motivated in order to silence his opposition to the Bush administration's push toward war with Iraq.[60][61][63]

Ritter was arrested again in November 2009[64] over communications with a police decoy he met on an Internet chat site. Police said that he exposed himself, via a web camera, after the officer repeatedly identified himself as a 15-year-old girl.[2] Ritter said in his own testimony during the trial that he believed the other party was an adult acting out her fantasy.[65] The next month, Ritter waived his right to a preliminary hearing and was released on a $25,000 unsecured bail. Charges included "unlawful contact with a minor, criminal use of a communications facility, corruption of minors, indecent exposure, possessing instruments of crime, criminal attempt and criminal solicitation".[66] Ritter rejected a plea bargain and was found guilty of all but the criminal attempt count in a Monroe County, Pennsylvania courtroom on April 14, 2011.[2][67] In October 2011, he received a sentence of 1½ to 5½ years in prison.[68] He was sent to Laurel Highlands state prison in Somerset County, Pennsylvania in March 2012 and paroled in September 2014.[69]"

His thoughts on Tulsi Gabbard:

"In 2019, Ritter wrote that "President Trump and all the Democratic presidential candidates" with the exception of Tulsi Gabbard "have failed to display a modicum of intellectual curiosity about what really happened in Douma and Khan Shaykhun."[53]

Concerning the Douma chemical attack, Ritter has said that Trump rushed to judgment and that the claims he relied on — 1) the nerve agent sarin was used and 2) chlorine tanks were dropped by the Syrian military — "have been largely debunked". On the latter, Ritter wrote in The American Conservative that the chlorine tanks were "manually placed at the scene by opposition forces."[54][55]

Ritter said that claims by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) regarding the Khan Shaykhun chemical attack should be viewed as a "fabrication" and "false flag" based entirely on evidence provided by the Nusra Front, the White Helmets and the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS). He supports Gabbard's statement that there is "evidence to suggest that the attacks may have been staged by opposition forces for the purpose of drawing the United States and the West deeper into the war" and concludes that the attacks on Gabbard regarding Syria are indicative of "the low bar that exists for American journalism today."[53]"

Yes, he was right about no WMDs in Iraq, but he is a nut case

Just read the comments in the OPs twitter feed

It should also be noted he is a putin defender, and used by Russia for Russian propaganda and lies

did he get to be a weapons inspector in Iraq in the early '00s after being caught in a police sting trying to arrange a date with an under-aged girl?

Oh, I forgot, IOKIYAR, white male privilege.

Opposition to the Iraq War was, rightly so, very big here then. Ritter, like so many others, was correct about no WMDs. But he is a pervert, criminal and nut case.

Like a good many of those during that time, he's obviously gone full horseshoe curve.

for Democrats. Anyone who did that, no matter how slimy and dishonest, and since predictably proven wrong on many topics, had an enthusiastic little fandom back then. But of course that's all long gone from DU.

Btw, is it surprising that there always turns out to be something wrong with people whose work pushes partisan deceits about political opponents? Both intellectually and ethically?

sting he got caught up in trying to date under-aged girls...and that was before the weapons inspector job.

My question too...how the hell do you get that job after being caught being a sex perv?

He must've had photos of some Bush admin higher-up.
