https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/04/06/jd-vance-immigration-ukraine-great-replacement/J.D. Vance wants you to know that only one invasion should overwhelmingly preoccupy your attention right now. Its not the invasion of Ukraine, where war crimes are mounting and were seeing horrifying imagery of murdered civilians littering the streets.
No, you must not get distracted by that distant skirmish between foreigners. The invasion that truly matters is occurring at our southern border. You see, President Biden is permitting desperate adult migrants to apply for refuge again, after using a bogus public health rationale to keep them out. Thats the real emergency.
Vance introduced a new version of this idea at a debate among Ohio Republican Senate candidates on Tuesday night. Vance declared opposition to a no-fly zone over Ukraine, which hes correct about, but then sank into some absurdly tendentious claims.

However tragic we find these images of whats going on in Ukraine, this is not our fight, Vance said. He insisted Ukraine is a massive distraction from domestic problems, ranting that the U.S. media spends way more time on Ukraine than it does on the southern border.

(82,383 posts)That the Southern Border is the same thing as Russia invading Ukraine. They attempt to make immigration there into a military attack. It's not military, there are no weapons and tanks, so it's a different situation and no one but a Trumper is dumb enough to think it's the same - it is something they will say that they think owns the libs, but it's stupid. Like so many of their arguments - that the Democrats were behind the KKK or against the Civil Rights movement, ignoring the shifts in time.
They have always tried to equate illegal immigration with a military attack.

(13,296 posts)We roll our eyes, shake our heads, heave a sigh, act enraged, point our fingers and say, "There, see? A racist neo-Nazi!" That's extremely weak sauce rhetorically. Dems have to coolly say, "We're dead set against anyone replacing anyone, and anyone who says otherwise is a dirty liar."

(11,767 posts)Almost literally, talking about how opposition to another fascist movement was "not our fight" while demonizing people coming from our Southern Border. Funny thing is that Conservatives have contributed greatly to the problem of immigration, both by making policy that helps to make the situation in Latin America horrible, and for wanting to exploit people for cheap labor, but then getting mad when those exploited people start to establish themselves in the country.
"The people telling you Donald Trump is a Russian Stooge" are 100% correct.
