...to dig up dirt on Democrats would have been like FDR asking Hitler to dig up dirt on Republicans...
...why is this acceptable today?
...why is this tolerated?

(53,072 posts)Everyone is used to the worst possible behavior from Trump, so when he does something horrible, it just slides, particularly among the media.

(9,897 posts)If the idea dies, I have to be honest - I give fuck all about the physical place of America by comparison.
Secular, representative republic with democratic principles remains the single greatest conception of self-rule in human history. It was always going to be a fight to keep money and lunatics from ruining it, but the IDEA - that the divine right of kings, which had held sway in Europe for 1500 years was really nothing more than a bunch of BS and that an informed electorate of self-interested yet patriotic citizens would know better how to govern - that idea is priceless and precious and on life support.
If the idea dies, fuck this shithole country and 45% of its inhabitants. I could easily live out my days without EVER conversing with or caring for any of them ever again. The ONLY reason I give a shit about these autocratic-loving, louth-breathing, religious-zealots and their ilk is to maintain a functional country. As they make that impossible, I really don't have any fucks left to give for them. They can - and will - die off by the millions and their overlords and masters will not even blink twice. Its sad and it is avoidable, but not for much longer.
Those who would make common cause with a nation's enemies are no longer countrymen - they are enemies and deserve no quarter.

(2,542 posts)That's about how I feel about these ignoramuses. They love America but hate about 80% of the things that are great about it.
Fuck them and their small minds.

(4,309 posts)Of course, Herbert Hoover would never have done such a thing. He was a man of honor, just too naive and unsophisticated to figure out what sort of a criminal conspiracy the Great Depression was.

(13,137 posts)The resolution of this dilemma will probably result in the imposition of more RW authoritarian laws via an inevitable Constitutional Convention. You can bet they are prepared for it.
