Two more thoughts on Ukraine

Point one: Russian aggression in the Ukraine is NOT the number one problem facing the world. Climate change is. And Putin's warlord dictator childishness is just distracting us all from dealing with climate issues.

Point two: Climate change -- melting ice in the Arctic -- will help out Putin's dream of a revived Russian empire. His Northern Sea Route
[link:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_Sea_Route] would allow global sea traffic to bypass the Suez Canal and Russia and China to trade without using dollars. (See the orange and white dashed line on the right of the map below).

Normally I would shrug this off as ordinary technological innovation and economic competition, but having witnessed Russian brutality in Ukraine, I don't feel any obligation to play fair with Russia. I would like the United States and other countries involved in the Northern Sea Route to resist this development using all the Putinesque tactics of transparent lies, mass media misinformation, strained legalisms -- perhaps even military force.

I don't want Russia and its brutal conscript army for a new Northern neighbor. I'm happy with Canada and its Mounties.

Here is a Russian video showing recent advances with nuclear-powered icebreakers.
