Polling is abysmal. Across the country, women's rights are is serious and significant jeopardy. Across the country, LGBTQ+ rights are is serious and significant jeopardy. Across the country, voting rights are is serious and significant jeopardy.
The polling is what is really the most unnerving. I am dumfounded at the profound swing to Republicans, especially given the improvements since Trump's administration and the profound and complete failure of Republicans in the House and Senate when they controlled the legislative branch of government.
In light of what is going on in states across the country and what Republicans say they plan to do if they win control, I am truly disappointed and very upset by this possible outcome.
Any positive thoughts or analysis is greatly appreciated.

But it may take a decade to build that momentum.
And by then it may be too late.

Plus, with regard to polling...how many people do you know who answer their phones if they don't know who it is or if it is a polling organization?

(11,294 posts)Cable news and Cable polls are crap and all Opinion. I feel the Blue wave will build and we win big time. People are turned off to the puke owned cable corporations questions and thoughts disguised as news. Real news is here on D U for me, but even here I have to pick through it. Hang in there. Peace.

(34,503 posts)There is a part of the population that will never vote for Democrats or be persuaded by facts and evidence. There is another part that simply doesnt get how politics affects their lives, so they wont vote. Together, they may be 35% of the population.
Another 40% or so will generally vote for Dems because they believe Dems positions are beneficial to the country or to themselves personally.
The remaining 25% think in a micro rather than a macro way about how they believe politics affect them personally (rightly or wrongly). Right now, inflation is awful, those with stock and bond investments have seen a big drop this year (so retirees are facing the perfect storm of bad news), there are worries about possible world war, the pandemic continues, etc. A lot of this group doesnt understand cause and effect, and blames the Democrats.
If I am right, when things turn around, this group will have more favorable views.

(17,669 posts)Republicans are actively turning back the clock to the days when they thought America was Great. A day when white men ruled, people of color knew their places, women were property and gay people were jailed or worse. They want the Freedom to decide how others are to live and they see it as their God-given right and patriotic duty. Nearly half of the country are supporting their efforts and it appears that the numbers are growing, not shrinking. Liberals are on their way to becoming an extinct species.

(349 posts)You owe it to yourself to moderate them, which is what you are partially doing here.
Good starting point even if its a bit heavy. Far worse to not care.
I dont have much to say about the short term. I will say this countries trend is progressive in nature. We see steps backward, which we are in now, but the trend will continue.
Please note that my above comment comes with the belief that fascism will not take hold anytime soon.

(4,419 posts)The polling I have seen in last 2 days says people consider those who support Russia, the insurrection, and fraud are in the distinct minority. Last time we had an election for mid-terms and we did better than projected. I am worried about voters rights and the SC and women's', LGBTQ rights, and racism. Positive thoughts? I decided that they will not take my piece of mind. I am going to do what I can and know that I have made a difference in my small sphere. I donate to Elias monthly, support candidates and do outreach. They want us paralyzed, hence the screaming rants from MTG and all the others. My take is to start letting them know they should be concerned about their collateral damage. When they go low, I go a little lower sometimes.
