There is a video from Maripoul out today that stunned military analysts. Maripoul has been under siege for a month and it's surrender was thought to be imminent. Yesterday came word that Maripoul is being supplied. Today a video surfaced of two Ukraine tanks battling in what is clearly the suburbs. Below is an image from the video. It appears that Maripoul is nowhere near being overwhelmed. The video must be from a Ukraine drone.

(32,639 posts)They don't have enough troops to occupy for very long, do they? I thought they were pulling back from most areas, other than Dombass and Crimea.

The Russian "Plan B" objective is probably to take and hold the Luhansk and Donetsk regions along with Blavk Sea land from Mariupol to Crimea.
They will occupy it, reinforce it and defend it if the UA tries to take it back.

(12,444 posts)Reliable sources reporting that the city center of Mariupol has fallen and the remaining fighting is in a Western suburb and the battle is expected to be over within a couple days.
It will be the first Russian victory of the war in 6 weeks...

(12,444 posts)Russian proxy forces claimed to have captured central Mariupol on April 7, but Ukrainian forces retain positions in the southwest of the city. ISW cannot independently confirm this proxy claim, but we have not observed confirmed reports of fighting in central Mariupol since April 2.[1] Russian forces will likely complete the capture of Mariupol in the coming days.
BTW, the ISW is used by both the BBC and Reuters for military analysis.
