We are witnessing a great tech change in war-fare. Cheap, intelligent missiles are beating expensive tanks. Without tanks, can an an invasion be won?

Highly trained motorized infantry with high tech weaponry including man portable AT and AA systems... drones and mortars.

Leave the tanks and planes at home.

..what Putin wants (that's something I read). He needs NATO to engage so he can say he's "fighting the United States" which would make his argument more acceptable by the Russian population. The majority already believe Putin's war is justified, as a result of his propaganda machine.

In a perfect, sane world (?) NATO would engage but then it would be a "world war" which wouldn't necessarily help Ukraine in the end. Best option is to keep Ukraine's military stocked with as much weaponry as possible and just let them defeat Putin. It's not a gratifying course of action but there ain't no good courses of action to take.
