(2,256 posts)..what Putin wants (that's something I read). He needs NATO to engage so he can say he's "fighting the United States" which would make his argument more acceptable by the Russian population. The majority already believe Putin's war is justified, as a result of his propaganda machine.
In a perfect, sane world (?) NATO would engage but then it would be a "world war" which wouldn't necessarily help Ukraine in the end. Best option is to keep Ukraine's military stocked with as much weaponry as possible and just let them defeat Putin. It's not a gratifying course of action but there ain't no good courses of action to take.
