Is it time to remove Russia from the UN?

The UN is impotent in the Ukraine crisis with Russia having a permanent seat on the Security Council and a veto that can't be overridden. The rules concerning the veto can't be changed because Russia would use their veto and we are back where we started. One option is to simply remove them from the General Assembly since Russia is laughing at the whole thing and continues doing what they want.

ASAP. Obviously only there to undermine and disrupt. That country has become a pariah and needs to be isolated until it can join the rest of the human race with humility, decency and respectfulness.

I won't be holding my breath waiting for the latter.

may expand to something like (e.g., a Common Treaty Organization) for all nations of the World that meet the membership requirements of today's NATO.

Grind them to dust; once Putin is gone we can talk about a path back to civilization.

If not that perhaps they could be confined to a corner on a stool with a dunce cap to wear.

Arguably, their seat on the security council was lost when the ussr was dissolved.

Until 1971.

Apparently the u.n.'s rules for succession are murky.

In practice, the ship has probably sailed in terms of Russia succeeding the ussr on the security council, unless there's a provision for removing them from it -- which I imagine they can veto....

How could Russia be removed?

As Russia is a permanent member of the Security Council, and has veto powers, the Council cannot recommend the removal of Russia without its agreement.

Russia would need to approve its own sacking.

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki says Russia's permanent position on the Council poses challenges.

"I think [Mr Zelenskyy] is certainly referring to his frustration, which we share, that Russia is a permanent member of the Security Council, we don't see that changing," Ms Psaki says.

That night be best way, as the UN charter makes any such radical change difficult.
