Beijing: A day after voting against a resolution to suspend Russias membership of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) over the killings of civilians in Ukraine, China on Friday defended its vote, saying that the Such a step taken would set a dangerous precedent.
Reacting to the development, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said, It is like adding fuel to the fire, which will not help in reducing the conflict. The linked resolution would strip Russia of its membership of the UNHRC and set a dangerous precedent, he said.
It is noteworthy that the membership of any permanent member country of the United Nations Security Council has never been revoked from any unit of this global body. Being close to Moscow, China has not condemned Russias attack on Ukraine.
