FerryHawks sign female player, who could become first woman to play in Atlantic League

She was a college softball star, but dont get it twisted -- Kelsie Whitmore is a baseball player.
The 23-year-old pitcher/outfielder is a two-time Team USA Womens National baseball team gold medalist, and now shes a Staten Island FerryHawk, too. The team confirmed on Friday that it had signed Whitmore to its active roster.
Kelsie will be someone every person will look up to. She will be a trailblazer in her own right, said FerryHawks general manager Gary Perone. Her work ethic outdoes any person Ive seen. If someone wants to be in the game and loves the game, then the opportunity should be there.

She is expected to see playing time either in the outfield or on the mound (maybe even both) while with the FerryHawks, and could potentially become the first female to play in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. Earlier this year, Alexis Scrappy Hopkins became the first woman to be drafted by a professional baseball team when the Kentucky Wild Health Genomes selected her in the Atlantic Leagues showcase draft.
