Don't get me wrong; I'm delighted that Rachel's going to be returning. But I'm going to miss Ali.
Can't they put him someplace more visible than early weekend mornings? How about Lawrence O'Donnell's spot? I always change the channel when O'Donnell comes on; I find him and his coverage to be insipid. Ten p.m. weeknights seems like a perfect spot for Ali Velshi.
Nothing would please me more than a two-hour block of RachelAli. They both deliver "meat."

(25,251 posts)He should have his own weekday show. MSNBC made a big mistake when they went with Stephanie Ruhle for the 11 Hour show instead of Ali.

(424 posts)Ruhle is a pretender, Ali is the real deal.
Bluntly I was shocked by the heat I took. An absolute no brainer. They aren't even in the same league.
he is the real deal. Never much cared for Ruhle. Liked Craig Melvin somewhat, but now he is gone. Just on today now and I dont watch a lot of it anymore. Dont care for savanna.

(1,497 posts)I followed him on Al Jazeera America before it folded.
He's a real solid journalist with a global outlook and I am grateful for his presence and input.

(1,454 posts)She said that she was going to be involved with a film for a while, but that she would return when the film was completed.
Who said she was retiring ? Link ?
And, Ali Velshi SHOULD have his own show.

(9,462 posts)From article:
Maddows return will be welcome by MSNBC executives, who have seen the networks prime-time ratings sink since the host stepped back. It may only be a brief respite, as Maddow is widely expected to step back from her daily program this summer. MSNBC declined to comment on that possibility.

For some reason I thought she was going to be giving up her 8:00 show and only doing specials or a weekend show like Meet the Press. I guess I read rumors and thought they were true.
If she does give up her 8:00 show I hope Velshi gets it. I love watching him.

(30,540 posts)weekday show. I think she was but the network must have given her a bonus or something to stay.

(16,829 posts)Even if Rachel were in that slot, I wouldn't stay up unless it was an intense news day.
Seeing Stephanie come on the air just reminds me that its time for bed.

(1,497 posts)Would like to see him in primetime. I like Rachel and Lawrence, but if either of them leaves, he's a natural for a 9 or 10 est slot.
A special guy, I think - smart, compassionate and quick to adapt to changing realities. A mensch, to boot.

Unless you're thinking not of Ali but Ari Melber.

(1,323 posts)Ali Velshi has certainly paid his dues. He deserves Rachels spot (and he deserved Brian Williams spot before that). Im concerned that theyre going to give it to Jen Psaki, however. Psaki is clearly very talented, but who knows if she can perform as a TV host. Plenty of great guests have failed to make the transition. Ill be really disappointed if Ali is sent back to war zones and hurricanes.

He needs a unique spot. He is amazing at reporting on the street like Ukraine, and the BLM protests.

(5,801 posts)that Jen Psaki will be the next Rachel (or Rachel caliber).
Velshi or Ayman Mohyeldin or Medhi Hassan are the ones I'd like to see get evening shows (or rotate).

As Ali Velshi prepares to leave Ukraine after several weeks of reporting in the region, he reflects on the plight of Ukrainians to remain free and democratic, and the broader context of those fights for freedom all over the world, including the United States. Aired on 04/08/2022.
