Their recovery must be struggling, and of course online shopping is stiffer and stiffer competition.

The fact that Westfield is dumping all of them sure seems like the mall era is over.

I know I haven't been to one in years and did all my Christmas shopping online.

...which, the last time I visited, still seemed quite active. But, with two of the four "anchor" stores being Sears and JCPenney, who knows?

women clothing in one, men and furniture in the other. suddenly they closed one location and the mall emptied out one whole wing of the mall... moving the smaller stores to other wings.

Doesn’t sound appealing to me. But if price and interior is decent, might be attractive. If in a superior location, that would make a difference.

I expect complete tear downs and replaced by high density housing.

Malls are typically in high traffic areas, huge foot print with huge parking lots.

Saving the existing footprints will be difficult. Typically two or three story malls at most, expect five story replacements with increased density using parking lots, especially in Southern California.

Good to hear it is legit, I was worried when it opened an app, it could be I touched something without realizing it. I once had a virus take over one of my laptops and I could then not get to any browsers, just some crazy malicious website, it was crazy. But apple store people fixed it then for me, I can’t remember what they did now. I will check out the pop up blocker.

ATR Corinth Partners, a Dallas, Texas-based real estate company that purchased the million-square-foot mall in 2016, is in the process of converting shut-down shops into rentable office space. With only about 70 current retail tenants in place, the new owners said Northlake’s future won’t look anything like the thriving mall that opened in 1971.

“This is a prime area for us to reimagine this to become a job center,” Tony Ruggeri, a partner with ATR Corinth Partners, said at a meeting hosted by the Tucker-Northlake Community Improvement District. “We felt like it wasn’t going to survive for another 10 years as a retail mall because of what’s happening, but we saw tremendous opportunity for office (space).”

Most of the mall’s big box stores have closed, but Macy’s will remain as Northlake’s retail anchor tenant. The former Sears location at Northlake is being converted into office space for a new corporate anchor tenant, Emory Healthcare.

It’s leasing 240,000 square feet of space to accommodate 1,600 employees. Becky Willis, Emory University’s senior associate vice president of government and community affairs, said they’ll begin moving workers to the Northlake offices in December.

“We love this location. It’s so geographically close to everything,” she said of the mall’s proximity to I-285 and several MARTA stations.

Frank Mihalopoulos, another partner with ATR Corinth Partners, showed off several renderings of what Northlake Mall should look like in 2022. He said CDC Federal Credit Union had agreed to open a branch at Northlake, and he said the mall’s ample parking availability and space should lead to more companies to relocate to Tucker.

fronts in the mall. Even the big box stores like Sears and JC Penney have left years ago. You have some seniors using the mall during the winter months to get in their daily walks, other than that very few people there. If the movie theater ever pulls out, it will be the end for the mall.

Target, Best Buy, Olive Garden, etc.

People don't go for a long stroll through the mall like they used to. They just want to park in front of a store or restaurant, go in, and get out.
