I expect that Putin is behind these horrors on innocent civilians.

He wants the war to become so destructive and horrific that at some point Ukraine will give in so the horrors will stop.

I heard that his war on Chechnya was waged this way and the country is now an empty shell of it's former self with a subservient, broken population.

Right now the horrors create more determination in Ukraine to fight but Chechnya was the same way.
They were very determined at first but he kept pounding innocent civilians continually for years so that finally the country couldn't continue to support the population and had to surrender.

So this will probably continue for years and NATO countries will not be able to stop it because actively waging war could cause a nuclear conflict with Russia.

Russia simply cannot sustain these losses for long. Another year of this and they'll have no proper military left, and no economy. The key is to keep supplying Ukraine, and give them even better weapons to really hurt the invaders.

Ukraine is getting way more international support than Chechnya, and the Russians are paying a price — and will continue to pay it — far higher. Last time Russia was considered to be a nascent capitalist democracy or potential democracy. That train has left the station. Now Russia is seen by most people as a fascist pseudo-democratic terror state, not fit for civilized company. Putin might not care if elites can’t get oysters. But many Russians will feel the effects. It’ll be for them like it was for us in the 1970’s — you wanted to backpack around Europe, it helped to affix a Canadian flag somewhere on your kit. And the current sanctions will bite much harder.

Putin first misjudged Ukraines determination and hopefully he misjudged the support the world will continue to give Ukraine.

Russia is bleeding out in Ukraine.

But yes, what Pootler did in Chechnya was sickening.

They won’t have the money to run a war. And they are going to start having major equipment problems.

Plus this isn’t Chechnya. he’s got a lot more on his now.

then we have time to train all the Ukrainian pilots we want, and all the systems operators they need. Putin may have bitten off more than he can chew.

Putin is the biggest threat to world peace there is right now. He has got to be dealt with.

As they were a former soviet district with few resources or access to the rest of the world.

Ukraine has been a country with a robust economy and resources for a generation and the separation from Russia has never been taken lightly.

The proximity to the rest of Europe is an important factor in Ukraine's independence and economic strength. Having been brutalized by Russia numerous times over time, the people there have no fantasies about what is at stake if they do not fight with everything they've got and then some.
