What's the best ONE SYLLABLE antonym for "woke"? The Magistrate advised a past tense verb.

Last edited Sat Apr 9, 2022, 11:40 AM - Edit history (1)

.

A rube is an unsophisticated person from a rural area, or a hick. But that's not a verb.

There are a lot of regressives in urban areas and suburbia, so that doesn't really apply.

It's got to be one syllable past-tense verb because regressives have limits to their word associations.

Update for past tense verb.

That's the correct antonym, but are two syllables too hard to understand? yardwork Apr 2022 #8
Thanks. I didn't take in the "one syllable" bit until it was edited for emphasis after I posted Bernardo de La Paz Apr 2022 #23

I agree with the OP that our target audience doesn't have much mental capacity so short words are best. Still, bigot is right on target, imo.

I think they hate it because progressive black people came up with it. They spit it out of their mouths with anger and disgust.

The way the used to react to the word ‘Ebonics”.

Though I agreed with the sentiment, I never cared for the word, possibly because it sounded like poor English. Merriam Webster recently changed the definition to include use as an adjective, but personally I would rather never hear it again.

And now, the only people who seem to use it are the extremists on the right and they do so excessively. I run across it all the time in reviews of movies and books. It never really caught on that much with the left, but the right really love it apparently. I suppose the upside is I can usually recognize MAGATs quickly now. It is shorter than saying/writing "politically correct"!

And in past tense. It is the action of the word, not the syllable count, makes it stick in the simple mind. It doesn't have to be a real word, either.

I like the sound of 'fooked' for the purpose, myself.

It sounds sort of like anything from fucked to fooled, calls you a mook, and uses twists on the sound it's desired to mock.

Use it in a sentence to demonstrate it's meaning:

I was asleep, but then I woke up and realized that the Republicans are full of shit.
I woke up this morning and decided to vote for candidates that actually cared about the constitution, the rule of law, and the people of our country.
I was sleeping walking through life, but then I woke up.

Thank God I woke up!
