There's a spontaneous combustion of Dem dissent in my area (edit/link included)

That would be VA.

Steve Bannon has told his viewers to go local with their issues and pot stir to boiling point. And they are. In my "neck" we've seen ultra RW Boards of Supervisors, Boards of Education and what have you becoming aggressive with their "hair on fire" BS issues to inflame the public...nothing you all aren't exposed to where you live.

However, these thugs are so beyond the pale with their lightning rod nonsense that the general public is now speaking out, in the Opinion Section of their local newspapers where the writer can't be shouted down. This has been building up for several weeks, strong SANE fact-check v. ad hominem attack public-information viewpoints of a fed-up, informed public who express themselves well in written form.

Most people are loathe to write a LTTE no matter how liberal they are. It's not in their DNA. But it's necessary to get control of the narrative right now. If our representatives know we have their back, it makes their job easier. They can't do it all, not when it comes to losing our democracy.

Once one or two letters are written, others join in to create its own life form.

An important election is coming up. Express yourself. The facts are on your side, but FOX won't report them. You have to, again and then again.

If your paper has an Open Forum with a 500 word max, for god's sake, become an editorial writer and use it, often. The 250 word Letter section is just fine, too. But doing nothing isn't.

FYI, this link only shows the month of April. Dem dissent goes back much further, and the Winchester area is conservative.

that took place in my area in the nineties. Same process. Misinformation and disinformation was spread in the community. City Hall was stormed by brainwashed people. And the City, which wasn't following good practices to begin with, brought them into the fold as they tried to appease them. In the end, the lawyers tried to hush them all up with a confidentiality clause, which the locals mistook for a gag order. Those of us that they abused and victimized, they tried to bully into silence.

And, because people were silent for so long, this monster has grown legs and is all over the country.

Postcard writing with the same message is nice, but ineffective, imo. Newspapers, on-line or tangible, are the way to go, yet 99 percent prefer to speak to the choir. Safe? Yes. Effective? No, though group pow wows, such as DU, can provide lots of ideas which need not to be left within a like-minded community.

Somebody's got to get the dancing going.

Usually, something will be mentioned that I will investigate myself. It used to be harder before the internet—I actually had to go to the library.

You're either with the good guys or bad guys. That's how clear the boundaries are now, as in Ukraine.

A Republican staffer from Trump’s Commerce Department was arrested on child/infant sex abuse and pornography today (April 8, 2022.) Over the past several years many Republicans in governmental positions have been convicted of child rape, trafficking and trading pornographic videos of heinous crimes against children. Is this what Evangelicals mean when the Bible says “Suffer little children unto me?”

Local Josh Duggar was convicted for these same terrible crimes. The presiding judge noted that Josh’s computer contained the worst of the worst child pornography. His family’s political rise was derailed by that; but Josh is still supported by Sarah Huckabee Sander’s father, preacher and one time governor.

Now Sarah wants to be our governor. What does she know about pedophilia? This is an important question to ask of her. Judge Brown-Jackson was attacked Senator Tom Cotton during her Supreme Court nomination about her stance on pedophiles. We should know where Sarah stands. Someone in the press, please ask her. Let’s get it on record.

In contrast, our Democratic president slowed the pandemic, lifted children out of poverty (the Republicans shoved them right back in with their no votes .) Insulin is capped at $35 a month; health insurance is available to more people; the unemployment rate is 3.4%!!! Wages are rising; gas prices are coming back down with more, more hybrid and electric vehicles coming on line every day.

Tell me, what government do we want? Hope, Help and Health or Fear, Fraud and Fascism?

We need Leaders, not Liars.

But I've known a lot of very, very good people from that area - and probably more liberal than me.

Reading the newest batches of LTE and the blog, I think it's much more "livable" than it was back when.

Good for you!

all red sups

One looks and acts like Trump's Steve Miller. His name is Graber....a Nazi who spoke about getting the tyrants out of Richmond. The Capitol is now building underground passages for its members to move out/about. They have a thin demo majority.

Graber has been getting himself into all sorts of trouble....stalking a teachers' union leader, filing a law suit against a police officer, then dropping it, name calling at school board meetings, storming out of these meetings like a child...

There may be a petition to get him removed. But there are others like him. People are becoming much more aware of what is at stake. If someone wants to be an asshole, then call them out for it IMO. It has no defense.

I lived in Winchester/Frederick Co throughout much of the 1990's. Stephenson to be exact. Real fine place for a progressive to make a home.

Not.

Unless you live there all your life you are an outsider. We lived in the area for over a decade - wife from Western PA in the late 1980's, me from Northern VA in early 1990's - but were still treated like shit.

Same as it ever was.

And the national head hoodlum of the KKK lived in Frederick Co during those years.

I live in a very conservative area. Neighbors down the street are moving out after only living here for 3 years or less. A friend told me it may have to do with the 6 LTTE/editorials I've written to the Star.

After McConnell made some eye popping statements last week, he decided to "write" a tough on crime editorial to cover his base and find a wedge issue per KBJ. The replies to his editorial are very critical. You may need to sign up for those, but really, smart replies to that pig.

Think I'll jump ship and see if the KY Courier will publish me. I don't want to appear too frequently in the Star. Give others a chance now that the wheels are turning, not to mention, they write better than I do.
