Photos: Ukraine has a new symbol of its invincibility 🐓

Ukraine has a new symbol of its invincibility. On the viral photo of a destroyed house in #Borodyanka, Kyiv region, with a kitchen cabinet still hanging on a bare wall, one can see a majolica figurine of a rooster.
@BorisJohnson has been presented today with this invincible bird.

The now-famous figurine of a rooster was made by the "Vasylkivska majolica" plant. The author of the figurine is sculptor Prokop Bidasyuk.

My family name is Prokopp! (The extra "p" was added when we emigrated from Hungary in 1956.)
I knew we still had family in Ukraine, though we left there centuries ago.

Prokop Bydasyuk from Vasylkiv, a master of artistic ceramics, who was born in 1895. He was a foreman at the Vasylkiv majolica factory. He made vases, decor, dishes, plates, toys, etc. His works are stored in the National Museum of Ukrainian Folk Decorative Art.

Prokop - The popularity of the name in central Europe is largely due to a later St. Prokop, patron saint of Bohemia, who founded Sázava abbey in Prague in the 11th century.

I find it amusing that there are more people with my family name in Budapest (Where I was born) than there are in all of North America!
