This video shows why Eastern Europeans have been so frustrated for years with Western Europeans who just dont understand what Russia is & how it works.

Following the 39th G8 summit, Daly accused the Fine Gael-Labour government of prostituting the country to US President Barack Obama and criticised what she described as media and political "slobbering" over his wife Michelle and their children during their stay in Ireland.
According to The Irish Times, Wallace and Clare Daly's positions caused tensions within The Left in the European Parliament GUE/NGL. Tensions boiled over when Wallace and Daly tabled amendments in the European Parliament on behalf of the Left group seeking to water down resolutions about Russia in relation to the shooting down by Russian backed militias in Crimea of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17. 298 passengers and crew were killed in the incident, 193 of them Dutch.
In late January 2022, Daly described the Russian troop build up on the Ukrainian border as being "clearly defensive" and believed there is "no evidence that Russia has any desire to invade Ukraine, it would be of no benefit to them".[45] In February 2022, shortly before the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, Daly (alongside Mick Wallace) was one of 52 MEPs who voted against providing 1.2 billion in loans to Ukraine, against 598 MEPs in favour.[46] On 2 March 2022, she was one of 13 MEPs who voted against a resolution condemning the Russian invasion of Ukraine.[47] Daly later stated that she opposed Russian aggression against Ukraine and had voted against the resolution because it also stated its support for NATO and had called for weapons to be sent to Ukraine.[48]

(6,562 posts)the guy in the green shirt. When she revved up, he got so nervous he took off his mask. Wasn't there another guy in a green shirt somewhere who was laughing at someone, and he made quite a byte on the news. May have to start wearing green shirts.
She's obviously a Putin supporter without much contact with reality. When Putin comes for Ireland, she'll take a dim view of his war technique of bombing cities to rubble, and killing and raping women and children. I must say, I really like the Irish rep at the UN. She gives a different impression of Ireland which Ireland can be proud of. Also, I am still fascinated with Irish Fishermen.
So, pay no attention to that weirdo wearing jeans to a formal meeting. Even I, who favors casualness to a high degree, disagree with her choice of attire, not to mention her endorsement of a brutal dictator who would kill her dead without a second thought. Send more munitions to Ukraine; end Putin, now.

Mick Wallace and Clare Daly: Why we voted against the EU resolution on Ukraine
IrishTimes.com
There has been intense interest from the Irish public in yesterdays vote on the European Parliaments resolution on Russian aggression against Ukraine, passed by overwhelming majority. Our decision to vote against it has drawn considerable anger. Central to that anger is the mistaken belief we voted against condemning Russian aggression. That is not true. We unequivocally condemn Russias war of aggression against Ukraine. We call on the Russian Federation to immediately terminate all military activities in Ukraine, unconditionally withdraw its forces, and fully respect Ukraines sovereignty. We express our undivided solidarity with the people of Ukraine and call for urgent diplomatic efforts to secure a ceasefire and negotiations to end the conflict.

But the resolution also calls to accelerate provision of military equipment and weapons to Ukraine, to strengthen NATOs forward presence, to further increase defence spending, and to activate European common and joint defence efforts in order to strengthen the European pillar within NATO. It also, opportunistically, calls for throwing open the European energy market to fracked liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States. Our political group, the Left, sought to remove these elements from the resolution, but the majority in the European Parliament fought to keep them. We had to vote on the text as a whole, which included these calls. Our vote was not against condemning Russian aggression. It was against flooding Ukraine with weapons. It was against a retaliatory spiral of military escalation, endangering all of Europe. It was against cynically exploiting a invasion of Ukraine to advance the interests of the fossil fuel industry during a climate crisis, endangering the whole planet.

In the European Parliament we have consistently opposed the militarisation of the EU, the expansion of NATO, and the erosion of Irelands neutrality within EU common defence structures. We have always viewed these processes as part of a global military build-up, at risk of igniting into a general conflict. Ukraine is a flashpoint in that build-up. Although Russia alone invaded Ukraine, both Russia and the West bear responsibility for creating conditions of instability and confrontation in Ukraine, in pursuit of their strategic and economic interests. Despite fulsome rhetoric, Europe has been no friend of Ukraine. The country has been used as a pawn. Ukrainian lives have been treated as expendable. All along, our work has focused on dialogue to bring about an end to the longstanding war in Donbass, in line with the Normandy Format talks and the Minsk II agreement. Our stance is firmly in the tradition of Irish neutrality and international support for peace.

(19,969 posts)an embarrassment, a long standing sore in the Irish body politic.
Mick Wallace himself was declared bankrupt with debts of 30m in 2016, but there's a section of the Irish population like to give mainstream politicians a kicking and re-elected Wallace to the National Parliament first, and then the European Parliament.
Daly started off as a hard left Trotskyist infiltrating the Irish Labour Party, before being expelled.
The pair of them have gone "rogue" for quite a while, defending Putin 's actions in Syria, the shooting down of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 and onto what's going on in Ukraine. It should be said Sinn Fein were similarly defensive over anti Putin resolutions, which makes it very concerning that they might get into Government at the next election.

Nobody should like war. Nobody should advocate war just for the sake of it. There are certainly too many people that are cavalier in their attitude toward war.
HOWEVER, armed conflict is sometimes necessary. Armed conflict happens when diplomacy is not enough, or when it has failed. Armed conflict, especially in the face of unprovoked aggression, like when Russia invaded Ukraine, is the only solution if you want to keep your sovereignty.
You have to pursue all avenues to end the conflict. Sanctions, diplomacy, and armed resistance. Ukraine is trying to defend itself from aggression. They want to keep their territory intact. They want Russia and Russian backed separatists out of Ukraine.
To think that diplomacy is the only way to deal with a man (Putin) who is not operating in good faith is willfully STUPID.
