'People aren't buying into it': GOP strategist warns Trump's rally crowds are 'getting smaller'

Raw Story

During an appearance on MSNBC's "Weekends with Alex Witt," GOP campaign strategist Susan Del Percio pointed out that Donald Trump's weekend rallies are drawing smaller and smaller crowds because he is losing his hold on the imaginations of conservatives.

During a discussion with fill-in host Cori Coffin, Del Percio was asked if the warm reception Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-NC) received from the crowd was a sign of where the Republican party is going.

According to the strategist, it is but not the way the former president might like.

"I want to ask you about congressman Madison Cawthorn," Coffin asked. "How do you interpret that warm welcome? Is he the future of the GOP?"

"Absolutely not," Del Percio shot back. "He's the future of Donald Trump and his shrinking base and that is what you saw there, his shrinking base. I'm not saying the Republican Party is going to come out for Donald Trump in two, four, even six years, even this congress member is being shunned by members of his own party."

"Donald Trump? Yes, he can bring out those people, but those crowds are getting smaller and people aren't buying into it, mostly because Republicans want to move on," she continued.
"They don't want to talk about the big lie. The people of this country don't want to hear about it anymore. They're done with Donald Trump and his lies except for a small group that we see there."

Now, now you know that trump is the leader of the GOP....or so he thinks. Many conservatives I know are tired of his bs. The want to hear what he would do for the country should he be elected....and he’s not even remotely addressing those issues or what people care about. It’s all about trump and how he was cheated, etc. trump managed to tap into peoples frustrations with our elected officials, of both party’s. Until someone tells trump to stfu and back off he’ll continue to spread bs. I really don’t know why people are so afraid to tell him to piss-off....he’s a big mouth bully and a blow hard.

The fact that the media would run with this as a litmus test - tells me that we shouldn't be paying attention to it at all.

Crowd size mean nothing. Twitter followers - ditto.

If the GOP has a better ground GOTV game - the smallest crowd sizes in the world won't keep the Senate and/or House blue.

Pay no attention to this distraction.

Call your local Democratic Committee.
Volunteer.
Touch base with the campaigns for House/Senate AFTER the midterm - volunteer.
Live close by a battle ground state? Volunteer?
League of Women Voters? Call them and ask if you can help register folks. Ditto NAACP.

It's simple math that we 'elected' Committee members engage in. Malinoski (NJ-7) is a numbers game. We are already planning on the door hangers in the county/borough level to walk with his team at the House level.

But the former guy is firmly in control of everything the Republicans do and say. Oh, there are a handful of broken toys that make a public show of straying, but when it's time to vote, they're all right there in line, nodding and bleating "Four legs good, two legs better" or whatever this week's script is.

You can bet they will crawl out to vote. Even if they do it by mail and then lie about it.

There may be some "Main Street Republicans" who are embarrassed by him, but the bottom line is that even they will vote for him over a Democrat.

Admittedly, I am in a heavy Red area. But I see folks getting even more radical and irrational, not "coming to their senses".

I think it is indeed a cult, and the cultists will try to outdo one another to demonstrate their faith.

Trump got the crowd sizes because he was a popular celebrity rather than for other reasons, such as his policies.

It's been a long while since he's had his own TV show. It's been more than a year since he's had any presence on social media.

No one can maintain celebrity without exposure.
