The woman had just left a jewelry store in the Jewelry District when her attackers began following her in a silver Dodge Challenger, police said.
As she approached the intersection in her vehicle, one of the robbers approached her vehicle and shattered her driver-side window with some sort of tool.
The woman tried to drive away from the robber, but was stopped by traffic. She left her vehicle and ran into the road while she called for help, but she was followed by the Challenger which accelerated and hit her as she ran.
After she was on the ground, two men exited the car and grabbed the womans watch which she had thrown away from her. One of the men was armed with a handgun, police said.

(7,737 posts)I had an apartment in Mexico- backpacked through Jamaica...etc. Alone and no such thing as a cell phone. Just me, a small camera and a journal.
I KNEW not to wear jewelry- so, I bought local jewelry from artists- I had a super cheap camera and a journal. I also never- ever- counted my money in public as I left the Casa de Cambios and banks.
I never had one problem.
America is dangerous, and it is due to the extreme differences in socioeconomic classes. We have created a culture of worshipping wealth and all it's trappings. Now- the super wealthy are going to have to adjust accordingly.

When in Europe, I wore simple pieces. Stud earrings, no chains about my neck. Simple wedding band. I wear my purse slung over my body, passport and credit cards in a special pouch worn under my clothes.

(5,358 posts)So- not to condone theft *under any circumstances* - but I got some questions:
1. Who buys extremely expensive watches? 2. What is the point having of an extremely expensive watch..the kind that someone would be motivated to steal? 3. Who wears watches anymore?
