9. Israel is arguably best-positioned to act as an intermediary for peace

close alliances with major NATO and EU powers (US, Germany), as well as, to some extent, Russia (thanks to the significant population of Russian Jews who emigrated to Israel after the collapse of the USSR). Taking this into account, Israel's remaining relatively neutral is understandable; I can't think of many other third-party nations to the conflict who'd be acceptable intermediaries to both sides.
