So is Musk really going to buy Twitter?

I doubt it. His most liquid asset is Tesla stock and he’d have to unload more than $40b of it. That’s not super easy. (It’s also not good for Tesla.) Failing that he’d have to pull together financing. Who on earth wants to be in the Twitter business?

So what gives?

Oh, who can say. But just for fun, remember the time Tesla quietly bought a billi of bitcoin and then announced that it would accept bitcoin as payment for cars, which is totally a non sequitur except that said announcement caused the price of bitcoin to jump?

Or, remember the time Musk said he had secured funding to take Tesla private at $420 a share? (Remember that number.)

Or, remember the time Musk tweeted that he thought Tesla shares were overvalued?

Or, remember all the times Musk flipped off the SEC?

Or, all of the dogecoin stuff.

It’s almost like this is a guy who’s reached the point in life where he can’t get it up except by manipulating markets as part of a weird D/s relationship with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

THE TRIAL:
Previously, Depp was portrayed as an abuser and although the recently released footage has suggested that it was Amber Heard who was allegedly responsible for doing the abuse.

Now, Depp is suing Heard for defamation with requested damages of $50 million. He also accused the pair of starting an affair one month into his 2015 marriage and has subpoenaed the billionaire for his text messages as part of a $50 million defamation case against Heard.

There's more to it, but this is the Musk part.

The nasty between Herd & Musk as they rode the elevator to one of J Depp's penthouses, while she was married to Depp, was all recorded on camera inside the elevator.

Depp os sueing because Herd made a big media deal accusinng Depp of being an abuser but the truth is the opposite.
So Depp has now brought the case against her & those involved, as a defamation suit for shit talklng his name to media.

And if not for the Elevator Camera, Elon wouldn't be involved.

2. I bet what he really wants is a way to trade away overvalued Tesla shares without appearing to sell.

Tesla stock is immensely valuable but also extremely illiquid, because being seen to sell it off would tank its inflated price. So what he's looking for is a way to trade stock in Tesla for stock in something else that is less overvalued. This would allow him to sell back part of it and realize some gains. Otherwise, though on paper he's the richest guy in the world, he can't extract those riches as cash. If he buys Twitter in a stock swap, he can sell parts of it for actual money, which today he can't do without popping the bubble.

3. I have said this before. After a certain amount of money, it becomes about power.

There are only so many planes, yachts, islands, clothes, etc... a person can buy. This is obviously only my opinion. I think that past a certain amount of money that one accumulates, the idea of money no longer excites a person.

If I won the lottery and got 10 million dollars, I would be super excited about some of the things I could buy and the trips I could take. People like Musk and Bezos have upwards of 200,000 Million dollars, buying a 12th house or 5 private jet, likely loses its excitement.

I agree that the thrill that remains is manipulating the "human condition". It is the reason stories like "The Most Dangerous Game" are written. Bridging back to a previous topic this week at DU, it is a good reason why "Billionaires should probably not exist".

Elon Musk sells his Tesla shares to GM to buy Twitter.

Twitter crashes.

GM puts the Tesla brand on the shelf, next to your father's Oldsmobile.

In a huff, Musk cashes it all in and flies off to Mars, never to return.

Nobody cares what happened to him.
