My grandfather raised a family on 25 cents a day in 1935. Made $1.00 per day building roads for Roosevelt in 1936. The landowner he worked for in 1935 said Roosevelt was a sonofabitch. Imagine that.

They are "government schools".

And they don't want to ruin them, they want to close them.

To them, education belongs to the private and religious sector (one and the same to them).

No free education. No secular education.

You either get the religion, or you get the bars.

Google, what is 2 plus 2? I went into a fast-food joint and the bill was $4.52. I handed the person $5.00 and they rang it up before I could hand them 2 cents. I told them that was so I could get back 2 quarters. They had to call over the manager. He kind of rolled his eyes.

Those workers have enough to worry about then a customer trying to impede the process. Yes, two cents should be easy, but they have other customers to get to.

From the cashier's POV: Take the amount the register says to return in change. Add what the customer just gave you, because you're going to return that too. SO: bill of $4.52, paid $5, register says to return $0.48. Customer hands over $0.02. $0.48 + $0.02 = $0.50, so that's what the cashier returns to the customer. Not that hard, once you explain it.

on March 4, 1987, Chief Judge W. Brevard Hand of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Alabama banned forty-four textbooks from the Alabama public schools. Judge Hand ruled that these texts unconstitutionally established a religion called "secular humanism."

---Patrick Stewart as Jean Luc Picard.
Fox Noise and in turn, GOP capitalizes heavily on long cultivated paranoia every day now. When the thirst for idiotic paranoid correlations was no longer satisfied there, along came other channels willing to push the insanity further.
This is censorship gone rampant.
Another quote from the same disturbing episode "The Drumhead", so reflective of exactly the bullshit the GOP is up to these days: again, Captain Picard:
"With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably."

Way to doom your future economy. Corporate America isn't known for moving or expanding to illiterate backwaters. At least not unless all they are looking for is really cheap unskilled labor like they usually do in 3rd world countries. You know, places where they can use dangerous chemicals, pesticides and what not with no pushback from the no-nothing rubes.
