driven in months. It's in the garage and the battery of course is dead. My key fob also seems dead...doesn't open the doors anymore, not active.
Does this happen because the dead battery? Anyone have an idea to get this working so I can get in the car to get a new battery as I intend to sell the car.
Do I have go to Mercedes to get a new fob? Very expensive I suspect.

(20,509 posts)The small electric motors that lock/unlock the doors need juice to operate.
Maybe theres something I dont understand about mercedes, but thats the way I figure it.

(8,924 posts)cap lock was on...pop the hood to jump start it then keep it running until you take it to a shop or parts store( where they usually replace the battery with no labor charge)

(15,543 posts)You can probably find a youtube video showing you how to get the key out of the fob.
The door locks require electricity to operate so if battery is dead so are locks, charge it up and should be fine

(6,280 posts)..... doesn't a key fob need an active signal in order to activate the locks? Seems like that signal would not be there if the battery was dead. Hopefully, when you put the car in your garage, you left the doors unlocked. Like I said, I may be wrong about this, so maybe someone will offer up a different solution. Good luck

(165 posts)at the same time are slim. If you can get the hood open (assuming that your battery is in the engine compartment. Most are) and replace or charge the car battery you will probably be ok. Most cars have a way to open the door in case of a dead fob.

(218 posts)Have you checked or replaced the battery in the fob lately? There are plenty of Youtube videos on replacing batteries. It's the least expensive place to start.

But, under the hood is a fairly obvious connection for jumper cables. Under the hood is the long time connection everybody understands, and it might be much easier than moving shit out of the trunk.

(12,396 posts)By now, the lubrication is gone.... drained to the bottom of the oil pan.
I would ask, or post here, how to start an engine that hasn't been run in a long time.
