(16,254 posts)I've painted Easter eggs and can appreciate the beauty and detail of each of those. It is a true art.
I assume they are porcelain. I'd love to buy some.

(16,254 posts)You'd certainly need to have a steady hand. In earlier years, I would have loved to play with it just to see how difficult it would be. Thanks for the photos.

(351 posts)It is so fun and actually quite easy once you get the hang of the tools. I am unable to do such fine work myself but have made a few I was pretty proud of. My husband first egg is amazing and I hate him for it hahaha. He even did some un traditional hockey team logo eggs for a few people. We use real intact eggs and not blown eggs and we have some that are from my Baba (grandmother). Some eggs have broken over the years and they do release a very bad odor because they are rotten on the inside. Some of them rattle a bit with the insides all hardened up too.

(23,138 posts)We were in this area a week before Easter about 5 years ago and there were 8 foot tall painted eggs in the square, forget the name of the city in Slovenia but it was beautiful.
Funny, there was also a statue put up by Russia in the square. They had torn it down but Russia came back and put it up just before they left the USSR and told them it would create an international incident if they took it down again. So they left it up, but put up a new plaque over the old one and renamed it - Patriotic Slovenians fighting against Nazi Imperialists or something like that.

(16,254 posts)I have seen photos of this technique before, but not so many designs. I can't imagine one 8' tall.

(36,869 posts)A friend of mine had a couple dozen that she had made herself. They were beautiful. She was packing them in an open box for moving and her big old fat lummox of a cat settled in and broke about five or six of them. I yanked him out of there in a not gentle manner.
She said something about the materials was toxic and had to be careful using them.
