Anyone here see the new movie about Martha Mitchell?

If you say "Martha who?" then you are too young to remember. Nixon named her an enemy and for good reason!

I can't wait to relive that time. We felt like our fears about Nixon and his henchmen were confirmed!

1. I definitely remember her. I thought at the time that there was something to what she said

Unreal as it seemed to be. She must have a reason for what she was doing.

Later we found out what her husband and Richard Nixon had been up to.

2. I haven't but read a bio of MM years ago.

The ironic thing was MM was once a Nixon True Believer. Called him Mr. President. Thought that others were setting him up and refused to see his corruption (and her husband's) initially.

True story: MM was a BFF of the mother of my college friend. My friend told me that after John (husband) committed his wife, she came out full of revenge. She consulted an attorney for divorce behind John's back. Attorney told her to go out on a wild shopping spree and invite her friends and to use John's credit card -- the night before the divorce papers would be served. And Martha did so. Racked up bills totaling six figures. Now, that's revenge.

3. In the multi-faceted news fronts of that era, we did not receive the full story of her situation.

Most of us could easily repeat her name because of its alliteration, but, unfortunately, the novelty of her moniker played into our perception that she had emotional issues. I am glad that her legacy is finally getting its due. Thanks for posting.

The horrific way she was treated. Every cliche in the book about hysterical, vengeful, crazy women. She was the Cassandra of Watergate.

8. Yup. That's what I remember. The abuse she suffered by Mitchell to protect the entire Nixon cabal

was truly beyond words. The M.O. then and now among conservative men whose condescending/disposable attitude toward women has really not changed.

That's when this 8-episode series will premiere on the STARZ network.

Can't wait. Will wait. Looks damned good.

But let’s not go from there to that she some kind of heroine. She was just as much a right-wing whack job as any of them.

... She obviously figures a lot in the book, though so far not as much as I would have thought. But I confess to thinking at the time (maybe because of my parents' influence) that she was loony. I'm glad she's getting more respect now.
