For them to hide behind. Award-winning public school teacher here. They hide their true selves behind all kinds of things, white hoods included. Pisses me off.

Education announced Friday that the state has rejected more than 50 math textbooks from next school year's curriculum, citing references to critical race theory among reasons for the rejections.
Which references? References to references?

(9,992 posts)in their tiny minds, CRT = Common Core = Social-emotional learning, although I'm not sure how any of those is present in a K-5 math book. Perhaps it's the presence of pictures of Black children, Asian children, and white children solving problems together?

(12,667 posts)Thier cobbled together Bible doesn't accept diversity, so they don't believe their kid's school books should either.
Besides, I think banning these textbooks is because most of the parents can't or don't want to understand Common Core. Which tries to get away from the repetition math that does not prepare kids for anything past basic middle school Algebra.

(14,855 posts)... which has nothing to do with CRT.
Although they seem like STRANGE math problems to me, using algebra to describe some of Maya Angelou's past.
Which I didn't know, and I don't need to know... especially since it could be a means to smear her and I don't know if it's all true anyway.

EDIT:
And that above link about the Maya Angelou math problems sure seems to indicate that it's NOT even an example of what Florida banned!! So that was just misinformation about it!!
I'll delete this post upon request, but want to leave the edit to be viewed for now.

in math class?

(14,855 posts)It was apparently a math problem seen somewhere in 2012!
Ugh, so tired of the BS that's found online! My intent was to be helpful, not spread misinformation.

and yes, extra bogus that they cant show their examples. dont you flunk math if you cant show your work?
Buckeye_Democrat
(14,855 posts)... haven't been provided, as far as I can tell.
Which leads me to suspect it's typical GOP nonsense, but I can't figure out their real motive in Florida.
Edit: Oh, except their motive could be to EXAGGERATE the "problem" to their cult of the paranoid.
Like crazy General Ripper in "Dr. Strangelove" mentioning how even "children's ice cream" would be fluoridated, trying to drive home the paranoia:

The original author says he wrote the first version between 2010 and 2012, but someone updated it to include Angelou's year of death - 2014. And it says it was used in a Missouri school (so, not Florida) in February 2022.

Text from your link:
If you are wondering what sorts of things the DeSantis administration thinks are "critical race theory," spokesperson Christina Pushaw shared a photo of a 9th grade algebra worksheet that had caused some controversy when a teacher in Missouri downloaded it from the internet and assigned it to her class.
It may not be an example from one of the Florida math textbooks that were banned (not sure), but the spokesperson used it as an example anyway.
I still suspect that DeSantis and company are trying to make CRT education seem like a widespread conspiracy, so they included some math textbooks too. And obviously the example the spokesperson used is not CRT either.
Thanks again!!
