General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsHear Xmas music every winter. Even have my work calendar arranged according to it, and the infernal Xmas trees in classrooms and the front office and the cafeteria. I don't do Xmas.
Then there's Halloween. Also not a holiday I appreciate.
One school I was at had a call to prayer on Friday. Couldn't get away from it, had to be in the same building. I'm also not Muslim.
Found myself surrounded by Hare Krshna folk a few times when I lived in Los Angeles. I was walking slowly, they were walking faster, I learned just to veer to the side and let the problem pass.
Was on Amtrak one Xmas eve when people went up and down the aisle wishing others Merry Xmas. I took it with the spirit it was intended.
No offense intended, I was taught not to take what isn't offered. Majorities and minorities have rights--they don't compel me to do anything but tolerate, and that I can do. Now, if they asked me to participate, that would be a different story.

(89,260 posts)Actually I think this was a chartered flight by a church so that's different.
But it should not be ok on commercial flight . Even if the music was not of religious nature. And I think it actually isn't allowed anyways so not really an issue .

(269,144 posts)she is correct.
Recently I was in a bill paying place and of course only X persons were allowed inside.
Someone started preaching in the line outside and I told the Security Guard to do something about it or I'd call the police.
As fate would have it a staff member saw it and told the security guard to tell the person to stop or throw them off the premises.
They try that crap here on public buses even though it is banned.

(601 posts)I would imagine the crew on a regular commercial flight would have this guy in zip-ties pronto.

(89,260 posts)if that's true then that would be ok.

But this seems annoying even if it wasn't religious . Flying usually sucks unless you can afford updates. And some people might be hoping to sleep through it or read a book or even listen to their own music.
But would need to know more about this flight .

(236 posts)No masks, and the guy is playing a guitar while standing in the aisle. I also don't recognize the livery on the wing and engine nacelle.
Having said that, sure: there are certain non-Christian prayers that would probably make people nervous if heard on a commercial flight, or at any jam-packed public place, really.

(58,785 posts)in the aisles, etc. Sometimes the best way to handle something like this is to let it play out. We don't seem to know if this was a flight chartered by these people or a regular commercial flight -- the first their right, the second on which I would be one ticked-off customer.
Some Muslim airlines apparently recite prayer on takeover, and some have designated prayer areas where traditional Islamic positions can be taken, but most Muslims reportedly pray quietly in their seats. Especially the women. I'm guessing if Omar tried to lead public Muslim prayer it might generate more problem among Muslims than anyone else.

(11,629 posts)If some of the posters in this thread are correct and this is a charter flight for church members I don't have an issue with it.
