The panel investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol will focus on then-President Trumps role when committee hearings resume next month, according to one of the leading Democrats on the committee.
Rep. Jamie Raskin, (D-Md.), who led the prosecution of Trumps second impeachment, said in a recent interview that Trump attempted a self-coup.
Were going to tell the whole story of everything that happened, Raskin said, according to Reuters report from the interview, which was also with National Public Radio and The Guardian.
This was a coup organized by the president against the vice president and against the Congress in order to overturn the 2020 presidential election, he added.

(51,000 posts)The last they said it was to be in April. April is passing fast, and I see no notifications about hearings.
Actually, I think the closer to the midterms, the better for democrats.
close to the midterms but not on top of the midterms..memories are short..do wish the committee would stop with the teasers and give us a firm date, though...

(4,720 posts)The thing is, if you give these hearings the best of everything youve got, with all the facts, power, enthusiasm, and creativity youve got; it will be the right time.
There is now perfect time; do it now with a kick ass attitude.

(8,346 posts)Just behind closed doors and not televised but they are ongoing. They have interviewed over 800 people. There is a ton of information. They have to have an understanding of the information before going public with findings. This is not a short process. It takes time to do it and so it right.

(54,770 posts)Question is, do they have actual evidence that will convict him criminally?
This new hype from the Select Committee, ain't making me feel like they have the goods to take trump down criminally.

(5,851 posts)They're still taking depositions and gathering evidence. I want them to have an overwhelming set of evidence to present to the American public when they do these public hearings.
While I've criticized them mightily in the past, it does appear they have already gathered a metric shit-ton of evidence and yet there's still a lot more out there that they need to look at.
I want their case to be fucking overwhelming when it hits our TV screens, don't you?

(16,497 posts)Everything else aside, I don't know why they would schedule live hearings, or even be talking about scheduling them, unless they KNOW they are going to have a shit-ton of very strong evidence to present.
At this point in time, they know if they're going to be able to present a compelling case. The constant assurances of live hearings tell me that they know they've got the goods.
P.S. Would it be nice if this happened faster? Sure, but the quality and quantity of the evidence they've amassed and how they present it are what matter most. (Yes, I know the midterms are coming up, and I'm sure they do, too.)

(15,290 posts)was the latest timeframe I heard recently on MSNBC when they interviewed one of the cmte members.
If so, that will be after the Many "sweeps" and in rerun season. Broadcast networks will be happy to have new, interesting programming.

Rerun season does sound like a good time to do this.
