Are there not times when honest people must choose whether they will be

optimistic or realistic?

Can optimism be an excuse for doing nothing since " Everything will work out ok. It always does" ?

Pessimism is not the only alternative to optimism. Both can be used to excuse inaction; one because "everything's ok" and one because "there's no use".

across the road, highly commercial area, not residential... I say, look! There's a stray dog, stop...driver says he's going home.
