(16,938 posts)work to help build the next RepubliQan Party Platform?
I tell ya. When I was a teen, I mucked stalls at a horse farm in suburban Louisville. There was one that probably hadnt been cleaned in like forever. The smell was beyond intense

(16,938 posts)Man, the jobs we took in our teens just to get some money to go out and 'learn' a little bit about life!

(11,070 posts)Just another grift. I suspect they'll expect the "winner" to provide airfare and hotel room for the trip, and won't notify anyone until a couple days before the Derby.

(10,253 posts)Looked up price of the most expensive package to see the Kentucky Derby:
$6,780 for a ticket (via Vivid Seats) to the super swanky Millionaire's Row seating section
$478 for roundtrip airfare to Louisville.
$2,997 for three-night stay at Galt House: Its both historic and luxurious.
$80 for Uber Select rides to Churchill Downs: Uber has designated drop-off points this year.
$213 for the Bowties & Bourbon Derby Day Party: Make sure to pack your hat.
$1,000 for a limited edition Mint Julep: Its made with Woodford Reserve bourbon and served in a commemorative cup.
$150 for dinners after the race at Louisville's top restaurants like Holy Grale
Total: $11,698
The grift continues.

(21,629 posts)i'm like... that is completely redundant. if one person is $75k, you don't need to say two people are $150k. You only list a couple's price if it is different

(24,338 posts)But, grifters don't give discounts
Though I heard, he did consider a discount of 149,999.99 for a couple

(2,102 posts)Four people for only $300,000. And if you act now, you can add a fifth person for just an additional $75,000. Hurry! This price will only last until it's over.

(43,529 posts)"Every year, many high profile individuals choose to attend the Kentucky Derby, including prominent political figures," Churchill Downs' senior director of communications, Darren Rogers, told The Courier Journal Thursday evening. "We do not comment on or confirm the attendance of individual guests or those holding private events not coordinated by Churchill Downs."
When The Courier Journal asked if private and/or political fundraisers are allowed to be held at Churchill Downs during the Derby, Rogers responded: "Churchill Downs does not coordinate any private or political fundraisers during the Derby."

(46,191 posts)In Trumped!, (by John R. O'Donnell // https://www.amazon.com/Trumped-Inside-Trump-His-Cunning-Spectacular/dp/067173735X), Trump played with the idea of buying a young thoroughbred to run in the upcoming Derby. In short, he made demands that permanently made the horse lame and then refused to go through with the sale.

(6,849 posts)can't be tarnished beyond its raison d'etre. Imagine Mitch McConnell singing "Mammy" in blackface at the Kennedy center and you'll appreciate the "class" involved in such a spectacle.. The beauty of karmic justice is the fact that the track lay in "that part of town" which Trump and his ilk would love to forget even exists. My guess is the limousine curtains of their entourage will be closed for their final 10 furlongs to the post, bathing the passengers in ebony shadows, precognitive of a hearse's stygian denial of light.
There is no honor in that building. Rich aholes parading around in big stupids hats lamenting the loss of their slaves.
Great place for a missle strike that day.

(3,007 posts)The Kentucky Derby race is over in around 2 minutes. The Indy 500 holds no interest for me, but at least it's long enough to justify a broadcast.
I'll also not forget the Kentucky Derby in which a medical procedure had to be performed on an injured horse on live television. It didn't end well for the horse. Yeah, that can happen in any horse race - but given how prone to limb bone fracture these often overbred horses can be, I can find little justification in forcing them to race.
I'd rather watch Komodo dragon races. They'd last longer, and some of the jockeys would probably be eaten.

And how did Biondi and the others get to be honorable anyway?

For all its faults, our Derby is sacred here in Kentucky. Most of the attendees are regular people, partying in the infield (I've been once, when I was a kid).
Wonder if our good Gov. Beshear will be obligated to shake the monster's hand?

(32,094 posts)Last year's winner (Rest in peace, Medina Spirit.) was disqualified because his trainer pumped him with drugs, as he had to his numerous other charges. Other horses are dying left and right due to drugging and other abuses. It's sickening. Having Trump show up is fitting for that shitshow.
