(61,622 posts)It's up to the people of Pennsylvania to pick their Democratic nominee for Senator. I think both Fetterman and Lamb seem like good candidates. What's supremely unhelpful is this scorched earth negativity where fans are attacking one of the candidates.
Just stop. This is the kind of behavior that lost us the 2016 presidential election.

(61,622 posts)I mean breathless amplifying of emotionally laden accusations. Republicans do that to Democrats. Too many Democrats do it to one another.

(68,576 posts)Liz Warren sent a message to Lamb and told him to get the ad pulled and it was.

(68,576 posts)Fetterman? And he doesn't get to respond? NO.

(61,622 posts)Please reread my post. I don't single out either side. I'm saying that it is not helpful for Democrats to make emotional accusations against one another.

(43,383 posts)NPR retracted its description
The ad cites NPR for this claim. On Nov. 28, 2020, NPR broadcast a story about Fetterman in which the reporter called Fetterman a "self-described democratic socialist." On Dec. 6, 2021, NPR attached a correction: "This story wrongly states that Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. John Fetterman is a self-described democratic socialist. He is not." The same day the super PACs ad was released, lawyers for Fetterman and his campaign called on television stations to take down the ad, calling it false and defamatory. "Fetterman has never described himself as a democratic socialist," their letter said. The letter referred to the NPR story and the correction. Fettermans campaign announced the same day that a Philadelphia TV station had taken down the ad.
We reached out to Penn Progress but did not hear back. Politico reporter Holly Otterbein tweeted that she asked the group for evidence to back its claim. Otterbein wrote that the PAC referred her to a 2016 article in Public Opinion, a Pennsylvania newspaper, and a 2021 article in Forbes that called Fetterman a self-described democratic socialist, but no articles in which hes quoted calling himself one. Both articles used the phrase, "self-described democratic socialist." On April 6, the Forbes article was updated: "Correction: This story had incorrectly identified Fetterman as a democratic socialist he is not."
Lamb also used socialist tag
Politico reported in December that Lamb referred to Fetterman as a socialist, but Lambs campaign did not provide any evidence. On April 3, after a debate that Fetterman did not attend, Lamb said, according to the Washington Post: "The socialist label sticks on John because of the policies he actually has advocated and the people like Bernie Sanders that he has actively campaigned with." Fetterman endorsed Sanders in Sanders 2016 presidential run. In 2016, an interviewer asked Fetterman: "You are very progressive, I think I could be wrong but you label yourself as a democratic socialist?"

40 seconds into the video below:
Fetterman replied: "No, I dont label myself a democratic socialist, but I certainly ran the most progressive campaign in my race this past spring."

Fetterman did not endorse Sanders in 2020 btw, he endorsed Biden

(68,576 posts)the polls.
Demsrule86
(68,576 posts)the first election for the House...now granted it was a GOP district...but he promised not to vote for Pelosi and he didn't. He voted for Joe Kennedy. And his first year...68% of his votes supported Trump legislation. Redistricting made this district more competitive for us so he wasn't winning a red district after the first election.
I think a Senator Lamb would side with Sinema and Manchin myself. Fetterman is a loyal Democrat and will vote for Biden's agenda. Also, Lamb is like all the others, the most recent being Katie McGinty- who lost a Senate seat in Pennsylvania...he won't win. Now, I can't say for certain Fetterman can pull it off but he has a shot. IMHO, Lamb does not.

(12,444 posts)I'd rather have a Senator Fetterman.
But how does he poll vs Oz?
With the full weight of Trump and the MAGAt's behind Oz... plus the independent and suburban value of Oz's name recognition... it'll be a tough fight.

He's got several good ads running in the Pittsburgh area.

(300 posts)I expect John Fetterman to eventually run against Dr. Oz for the republicans, who is currently being savaged by other republicans in the primary as a Hollywood liberal. It will be an interesting and colorful campaign
