The vast majority of it is not moveable, it would require a complete rebuild and it would cost the company billions (maybe over a trillion?). Honestly, in today's age, I don't think you could recreate WDW at any cost. Finding that kind of unused land in a suitable climate might not be possible.

to rebuild at today's U.S. property and construction prices. Media was going nuts trying to figure out the purchaser -- as Disney rumors were swirling. Many of us were opposing it due to environmental concerns at the time.

Let Disney and whatever corporations that want to join them fight DeSantis at the ballot box. That's realistic. And doable.

The economy around there will crash if they leave. They should just start making noises like they are going to leave Florida. That will have all those businesses catering to the huge volume of Disney tourists angry.....hmmm I wonder if it's worth pissing off the libs if most all Orlando business disappears?

I never would have believed I would be on the side of Disney in any dispute. I visited once years ago and I could have lived the rest of my life without that almost boring experience. But adversity makes strange bedfellows.

Apr 2022

They can just direct their investments elsewhere.

Maybe cancel some plans for expanding Orlando.

Maybe cut back maintenance to the minimum.

Maybe open up innovative new attractions somewhere else.

There are many ways Disney can react to reflect their lack of support for Florida.

Over a period of years they can "move out" of Florida without a single moving truck.

Disney has a reputation for being cutthroat as a business. They will respond to Florida's actions. You can bet on that.

Disney may just announce that DeSantis's actions make expansions and improvements in Florida more expensive, slower and therefore less feasible. Disney's development dollars will go elsewhere. They should present rather starlly what the impact on Florida's economy is.

Also, if Citizen's United is REALLY the law of the land, then this is clearly retaliation for Disney exercising its free speech.

Orlando park is a cash cow. They will simply continue to mint money there. Its not a big deal to them, they will grease the appropriate people at the County levels and continue to expand as needed.

If anything they will find a way to turn this into a way to shift the burden to the tax payers. Watch for the stories in 5 years how Disney profits actually went up because of this.

...bet that is going to change very soon.

And they will probably scale back all planned investments in Florida and concentrate them in California and abroad. Add to that, they have always wanted to develop other new style theme parks, but to do so requires a lot of resources. They could go back to Long Beach to develop Disney Seas, build a ski-theme park, buy out failing malls and convert them to mini parks, etc.

Desantis won't be around, but a future governor is going to crawl back on their knees and give them everything they had before and a shit load more in order to make it attractable to invest in Florida again.

But realistically, the Mouse isn’t going anywhere. Even the absolute crazy worst case scenarios for sea level rise show “only” 2.4 meters by 2100.

The Disney properties in Orlando are at 30 meters, so no matter what, they’ve got a long time to keep making money there.

Walt however was a conservative repuke and possibly a nazi. At the very least he was a nazi sympathizer and attended meetings. Fascism was popular around the world before WWII. Thanks Italy.
We need to be careful because the republican party is largely leaning fascist and our police are demonstrating fascist authority that they do not have. We need to help people understand the danger of fascism so they are careful about how they vote. We all need to understand that police have NO authority over us unless we have broken a law.

Trump and 1/6 demonstrated the bold face of fascism. DeStupidis is wallowing with the fascists. These people hate American freedom.
Fascist Jack needs to go back in the box. It is time to stand up before there is no one left to stand with us.

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
