To steal an election and overthrow the government is one of the least conservative things anyone can do.
They've become crazy eyed, criminal radicals and are not conservatives at all any more.

who gained complete control of the party and claimed the word conservative for themselves.

and they don't care if those are obtained by fraud, corruption, overthrowing elections etc. The ends have justified the means for a long time with conservatives. Think Senator Joe McCarthy-- he didn't care how many lives he ruined lying to achieve sway over the USA.
One even could claim that the secession of the South in the Civil War was an example of their rejection of legitimate election results by a group of conservatives.
